German Engineering At Its Finest

The thing I like most about this car is the handling. It literally grips the road and you can feel it, especially around curves. There are also many little convenient extras that make being in the car special. Like the auto windshield wipers. I never have to turn them on. When it rains the wipers operate automatically. Of course you have to set the switch position to auto but once set you can forget it. I love this car and being a little advanced in years I plan to keep this car for life.

Car purchase

Purchasing a vehicle with carmax were the best car buying experience I have ever had. You dont deal with saleperson out for commission because the price on the website is the selling price. I will never go to another dealership again to purchase a vehicle... Great service..

'09 E Class

The 2009 MB E Class is a pleasure to drive. It is responsive, good looking and maintains its classic styling. This car provides great acceleration and handles well while providing a ride so smooth it can put you to sleep. Other than that the car presents several contradictions. While the HVAC system lacks the digital readouts one would expect from a car in this class the fit and finish are superior. I continue to marvel at how precise the German engineers can be while consistently designing counter-intuitive systems in their electronics. The Harman Kardon sound system is excellent but using the CD player requires an advanced degree. The dash displays a dizzying amount of information about your fuel economy and trip information but resetting the clock is a challenge. Most manufacturers make it easy to find the door locks by positioning them on the doors where they seem to fit nicely. MB hides this button on the console beneath the radio. And forget about resetting the position of the rear head rests unless you investigate the inner workings of the owner's manual. I guess MB is looking for only the most cerebral drivers. Overall it appears that you can expect to get about 22 mpg in combined city/highway driving although we recorded 31 mpg at 70 mph on an extended freeway trip which is better than our old C class was getting. The ability to choose sport or comfort shifting is an interesting option which can help extend gas mileage by starting in second gear and creating smoother shifts through the range. Since we are still under warranty we haven't encountered any expense for maintenance. However if this car rivals our experience with the C class we will get years of reliable performance by following the suggested maintenance guide in the manual.
