What a beautiful automobile! Granted, this was a selfish middle aged acquisition but I love driving it and get numerous unsolicited complements.
I have to say, the car has been one nice surprise after another. Even though I avidly read through the 481 page owners manual, I keep discovering new items. One of the first was the gas milage. I am getting 25 mpg around town & 29+mpg on the road. Keep in mind that is cruising. All bets are off if I put it into " S " and drive it in a sporting manner. I bought the car not only for it's performance, which is as the British say, " more than adequate ", but for the understated luxury of Mercedes S class. Soft Nappa leather cradles you surround by the well thought out appointments. Once familiar with the controls, every option is but a touch away. This car instills confidence, from the rock steady handling to the incredible brakes. I was amazed just how agile the machine is.Yesterday, a truck on the interstate threw a rock directly at me. With only the slightest flick of wheel, I dodged the projectile and then returned to my previous position with no over or understeering. I could not have maneuvered better on my former high performance race bikes. The 7 speed automatic transmission provides a linear acceleration with no lurching, as it progresses through the gears ratios almost like an electric motor. The cruise control is as good as I have ever encountered. You can ccelerate or decelerate in 1 mph increments which are well displayed. Drop the top and you have a pure Roadster to enjoy the fresh air and wide view. I also hasten to add, this Mercedes has an excellent view available with the top up as well. I have enjoyed a long line of motorcycles and sports cars, but for my money, this SLk combines the best attributes of them all.
After a lifetime of driving traditional cars, this is a guilty pleasure to own and drive. I love it!
