Sad to see her go!!!
I've owned my Grande Marquis for 10 years. The only reason I'm considering trading her in is because I've found a 2006 model with 9,000 miles. If you maintain this vehicle it will stay out of the shop. I replaced the battery at year 5, the tires at year 4, and three spark plug coils. With regular oil changes we avoid the mechanic pretty well. Not a fan of high riding SUVs, but I love a big low ride!! This car is an ideal vehicle. I will be trading mine in at 87,000 but I'm positive she has another 87,000 in her.
I've purchased a 2005 Mountaineer after running a 1996 Explorer to the ground. I've driven on many other vehicles from many trips and was surprised about how nice the Mountaineer drives. It's loaded with many neat features like sensor to warn what you're backing into and a 6 CD changer. The AWD was great in the blizzard of 2010. My Honda Minivan is a great family vehicle but the Mountaineer is what the family hops into when we want to go for a fun drive. The only gripe is the gas mileage - it is as bad as the 96 Explorer.
2001 Mercury Mtneer
This is a very satisfying SUV except for the typical-of-the-class issue of less-than-great gas mileage (15-19, city-Hwy). I previously had a 1999 Eddie Bauer Explorer that also had V8 with fulltime AWD. I love the power and FTAWD but the suspension on this Mountaneer is so much more comfortable than that of the explorer. Yeah, it still feels like a truck but it's comfortable enough that I'm considering selling my car and driving it all the time. BTW, I purposely bought a model with cloth interior because I'm not crazy about leather and frankly, at least in cloth the seats on this model are more comfortable than those in the newer body style 2002-06.
