This is one solid and steady car. Road noise is minimal and you hardly feel any bumps. The interior is roomy and very comfortable. I have traveled across the country and back in one so I have first hand experience. MPG on mine is 15/18 with a V8. I suggest you go with the V* for the extra power but watch your speed, it can get away from you!
Great truck luxury mix
2008 Mercury MountaineerJust BN me - Fayetteville, Georgia12/09/2011
2007 & 2009 Mercury Mountaineer Premier Owner. The third row seating is what drew me to stick with the mountaineer. There just aren't many vehicles who offer this option without being a V8 or other features. This SUV is not heavy or sluggish so it drives smoothly. The 2009's upgrades such as a USB port and the Sync System made it an even better winner. The only thing I totally hate about the 2009 model is the new design of the headrests...very uncomfortable. Other than that, this car has lots of bells and whitles that make for a great ride wether in town or long drives.
CONS: Due to it being a narrow, high SUV there is some rocking that you have to be aware of if you plan to make sharp turns or go over bumps. I find that I am constantly getting front end alignments. The only major issues I had with my 2007 was wheel barring issues and the front bar was knocking so that had to be adjusted.
Unfortunatley Mercury stopped making this car and Ford has redigned the Ford Explorer (which is the exact replica of the mountaineer) and I don't really like the new style of the Explorer. So now I guess I have a "classic" because they aren't making them anymore....smile.
