It has a steering lock failure that will cost you around $1000 to fix and will leave you stranded. When Nissan made the car they knew it was going to have this problem because they put it in the owners manual under Instruments and controls 2-13. I am currently fighting with Nissan to reimburse me for the expenses that it has cost me to get my car working again. I bought this car in hopes of having a reliable vehicle but it left me stranded as well as hundreds of other people as I researched this issue more on the internet.

The 2009 Nissan Altima meets my expectations in a car -- great performance on the road, comfortable during long-distance trips, interior and exterior appearances are great, and saves me money on gas. Overall the quality is good and I look forward to having this car a long time.

2007 long term Altima update

For those of you considering a new Altima, I have experienced very few issues at 48000 miles on a 2007 Altima S. For me, it is fairly roomy and plenty of zip. Hardware is good, somewhat still cheap plastic. As with most new autos, the paint is wafer thin so expect chips, etc. Mechanically, you would do fine with this car and I expect it to hold up well. Good hunting. MAC

Good clean used car

The car is clean, many bells and whistles. Have had the car for about 7-8 weeks. No quality issues have come up.

Love it!

My husband and I bought this after I totaled our 2007 Lincoln MKZ (also purchased through Carmax). We wanted something comparable---4 door sedan, large trunk, great safety ratings---it took us FOREVER to find what we wanted but the Nissan was perfect. It gets great gas mileage (I've had a month and have ONLY done in-town driving, it averages about 27mpg). I get about 400-430 miles to the tank, and that's ONLY been driving in town. I'm pretty sure I will average well over 500 miles to the tank when I get back to my regular highway-driving schedule. Highly recommend the "convenience package," which includes leather seats, sunroof, and lumbar control. We tried the Altima's with cloth seats and none of them had lumbar control, making the seats less than comfortable. Trunk is HUGE! I am a traveling musician so trunk size was very important to me. I can fit my cello with hard case in it very comfortably, and there is still room for my music stands, bags, etc... It's perfect for my lifestyle. Highly recommend!
