G6 Retractible Hardtop

Car looks great and offers year-round use of a convertible, considering the hard top, front wheel drive, and even heated seats. Trunk space is a big compromise, and driver legroom is cramped, but it's a great ride. A little rough on anything less than a perfect road, and more rattles than I'd like, but after exploring for months, this was the right car for our needs. And the couple very minor issues were easily corrected quickly.

Best little car

I purchased this car used in 2012 when it had about 60k miles on it. For the next 5+ years I enjoyed this car beyond belief. It was recently totaled and I am devastated. This 5 speed was so fun to drive. It was a primary car for me and I really enjoyed the responsiveness of this car. Not to mention it was quite a looker and the only thing that I added was aftermarket rims. The biggest pro was that this car was extremely reliable and I had no major issues at all. I maintained it well and it served me well. I had planned to drive it forever and estimate that I could have easily gotten another 100k out of her. Great car! This is why now, even with all the newer more cars out there, I am considering buying another in 2017!

Pros and Cons to consider

I have a 2006 G6 GT. At first sight it is a beautiful car. I get compliments daily. It's cute and sleek and people ask about it all the time. On the down side, if you have a problem you are on your own. GM is not easy to deal with, nor was the dealer, frankly. The sunroof leaked and was "fixed" 6 times before a recall was issued and it was properly fixed. The rear speakers blew, there was some water damage (again a sunroof related issue) and they were "fixed" 4 times before they were in fact fixed right. The vanity mirror on the driver side won't close tightly, it hangs, and the dealer "fixes" it then when you open it again, you hear a snap and it's hanging freely once more. There was a 'thumping' sound in the steering wheel that the dealer could never hear and therefore couldn't fix. A private garage did finally solve that problem for me. My issue is that while this vehicle is cute, gets GREAT gas mileage and is overall a nice enough car, if you have any problems you are on your own with GM. I wrote numerous letters, contacted BBB and threatened lawsuits to get repairs made. Now I use a garage that honors my warranty but isn't the dealer and I have had success in getting issues resolved. Think long and hard about purchasing this car.
