I love my new Porsche Cayenne. I like driving this SUV as I feel proud having this in my name. Only problem is expensive and low mileage. Hope this Porsche company will not get financial problems like Volvo or Saab. We want Porsche totally MADE IN GERMANY or USA.
I wasn't too happy about my wife's suggestion of trading my 911 convertible to our Cayenne since our family was growing but when my son accidentally cut his finger on a dog food can while trying to feed our pet, the true soul of the Porsche came out. The emergency room was only 15 minuets from my house but when I saw the blood dripping, waiting for the ambilance was not an option. The challenge was the short cut through the winding country side road with plenty of stop signs to test out the HANDLING, BRAKE, and the ever needed ACCELARATION with my wife and my hurting son in the same car not like my previous 2 sitter porsche911. It was good to rely on a vehicle to take you from point A to B in the both quick and safest way possible. (When every second counts, I've counted on the Porsche)
I've owned a Cayenne S for 3 years now. No maintenance problems - quality is very good. Vehicle handling is superb, the best among SUV's; it corners and accelerates better than most sedans. I also like the fact that it has traction control and electronic stability control, the latter being a really great safety feature that is finally being mandated in the US in 2012 on all cars. The car is rock solid on sketchy road surfaces - rain and snow. I wanted a vehicle that could carry 4 adults and 2 large dogs in the rear compartment and that has low-range and full-time four wheel drive (see awesome Youtube videos if you plan to go off road - excellent capability there). It fits my needs perfectly, but some other SUV's are larger if your space requirements are more than mine. Back seat leg room is very good. Rear seats go up and down easily for larger cargo carrying capacity. Like any larger SUV with a big engine, the gas mileage is not great, but I drive assertively. I average about 17-18 mpg, but have seen 22+ on the highway (following a semi). Inside is somewhat spartan (what do you expect from the Germans), but electronics and sound system (upgraded Bose) are excellent. GPS mapping system is very accurate. Pricey vehicle, but go buy it used. You get what you pay for: quality and safety.
