Super fun SUV to drive. If you are wanting a sports car, but need to be practical, you should seriously consider a Cayenne. Rides super smooth on the highway.
Well, I always dreamed that one day I would own a Porsche... I just thought it would be a sports car instead of and SUV. But this might be my only chance! I love the Cayenne! Performance of a luxury car in a SUV frame. Much smaller than our Envoy but so worth the loss in space. My wife's daily vehicle so I look forward to the weekend now more than any time in my life!
I've owned a Cayenne S for 3 years now. No maintenance problems - quality is very good. Vehicle handling is superb, the best among SUV's; it corners and accelerates better than most sedans. I also like the fact that it has traction control and electronic stability control, the latter being a really great safety feature that is finally being mandated in the US in 2012 on all cars. The car is rock solid on sketchy road surfaces - rain and snow. I wanted a vehicle that could carry 4 adults and 2 large dogs in the rear compartment and that has low-range and full-time four wheel drive (see awesome Youtube videos if you plan to go off road - excellent capability there). It fits my needs perfectly, but some other SUV's are larger if your space requirements are more than mine. Back seat leg room is very good. Rear seats go up and down easily for larger cargo carrying capacity. Like any larger SUV with a big engine, the gas mileage is not great, but I drive assertively. I average about 17-18 mpg, but have seen 22+ on the highway (following a semi). Inside is somewhat spartan (what do you expect from the Germans), but electronics and sound system (upgraded Bose) are excellent. GPS mapping system is very accurate. Pricey vehicle, but go buy it used. You get what you pay for: quality and safety.
