The Cayenne S drives like a sports sedan and actually put some real sport sedan to shame. There has been fun and joy driving this baby since the 2 years I have been driving it. The only one time I dove it off road was also terrific. It performs excellently on road and off road. The only problem I have is the cost ;) Most of the options are standard on other luxury SUV. The Cayenne S has been unfailrly compared to a VW Touareg as the Cayenne S has a Porsche engine and Porsche handling unlike the Cayenne.
Having a Porsche was a dream I had ever since I was little. I never thought I would have one until my wonderful husband wanted to make his wife very happy. My Cayenne is a machine - super smooth and powerful. I get a lot of jealous looks and feel like a princess. I love my Cayenne.
I've owned a Cayenne S for 3 years now. No maintenance problems - quality is very good. Vehicle handling is superb, the best among SUV's; it corners and accelerates better than most sedans. I also like the fact that it has traction control and electronic stability control, the latter being a really great safety feature that is finally being mandated in the US in 2012 on all cars. The car is rock solid on sketchy road surfaces - rain and snow. I wanted a vehicle that could carry 4 adults and 2 large dogs in the rear compartment and that has low-range and full-time four wheel drive (see awesome Youtube videos if you plan to go off road - excellent capability there). It fits my needs perfectly, but some other SUV's are larger if your space requirements are more than mine. Back seat leg room is very good. Rear seats go up and down easily for larger cargo carrying capacity. Like any larger SUV with a big engine, the gas mileage is not great, but I drive assertively. I average about 17-18 mpg, but have seen 22+ on the highway (following a semi). Inside is somewhat spartan (what do you expect from the Germans), but electronics and sound system (upgraded Bose) are excellent. GPS mapping system is very accurate. Pricey vehicle, but go buy it used. You get what you pay for: quality and safety.
