ultimate driving experience for manual drivers

This car is for people who enjoy a good sports ride, don't commute far distances and don't sit in traffic. City friendly ride in comparison to Carrera 911 with an exhilarating pull in the back. The engine in the middle of the car brings the centrifugal force in the curves to the minimum. The car feels like it is glued to the road. Great breaks. Money I spend on gas for this car goes under "entertainment". I got my Cayman for an affordable price because of higher demand on automatic. American population drives mostly automatic for a few very good reasons: long distances and traffic plus not too many curvy roads in LA where I live. Also, most people opt for a convertible which is not my preference so I got a hard top.

There is no substitute

I have owned 5 Porsche's in the past and raced numerous 911's and even the old 914. A real delight and I never stop smiling. Only a Porsche sounds like a Porsche and I will forever love the Horizontally opposed engine. If you want to go fast buy a Ferrari, if you want to go fast and finish the race buy a Porsche! The pure balance of the mid engine makes this a fun car to drive that isn't as demanding as a 911. Don't get me wrong, I still love the 911 as a real driver's machine and will continue to race them. The Cayman S just does everything right so I don't worry if my wife drives it and the car has the punch I want when I drive it. Mainly I don't have to worry about her spinning the Cayman by lifting in a corner. I love Top Gear but must say Jeremy just had it all wrong when he reviewed the Cayman S. Now if we could just make the 917 street legal I would be in heaven!

Love this car!

Ok, this is a great SECOND car - I have a run of the mill, older SUV that I need for transport to work in winter weather. I got the Porsche as a sporty second car. It is great fun to drive a couple of times per week; terrific speed and handling - fun on the highway. Cargo space is limited so this can only handle enough luggage for long weekend trips for 2 people. Love the unique engineering an styling of this car! Dealer maint is quite costly, but if you can find a good independent mechanic that works on Porsches, it's not too bad.
