This is my second ION 3 Coupe. The first was destroyed in a near head-on collision. When the operator of the tow yard saw the damage, and learned I had just been in the car, he remarked "When I see damage like this, the driver doesn't walk away", but I and my wife did, because this is a tough little car. Because Saturn doesn't make automobiles anymore, I searched for a different car, all the while missing my ION coupe. Then my wife located one in a neighboring state. The car was two years younger, and had half the miles of my old coupe. A test drive and some signed documents, and it was mine. The ION coupe has a lower roof line than the sedan, usually a spoiler on the back, and mine is a 5 speed. The power from the 2.6 litre engine is suprising when meshed with the 5 speed transmission. Even with four adults in the seats, the pickup is quick and steady. The addition of a cruise control on a manual transmission makes highway driving much more relaxed. The CD/MP3 player has good sound and an aux input jack for my iPod or portable XM radio. Even though I still miss my former coupe, the sunroof and leather seats make up for pain. I am very glad my wife found this ION coupe and I plan on driving it for years to come.
I bought this car BRAND NEW have had problems with it ever since. The transmission jumps/slips when taking off from a stop (terrifying in the middle of a busy intersection), but no one can seem to find a problem with it. Half the time you can't get the key out of the ignition without putting your hand inside the middle of the steering column to press a little button to release the key, The cover to the fuse box pops off very easily (extrememly dangerous while driving as it slides right under your feet) No lumbar support in the seats which makes it very uncomfortable during trips, I usually have a pillow in my car at all times for the support, Can't get into the trunk from the inside of the car, you have to get out, pop the trunk and pull a latch to get the seats to fold down to get to the trunk from the inside, very inconvenient. My car is only 4 years old, the weather stripping is falling down, the plastic edging the door frame is pulling away from the frame, the carpet tears very easily, and I don't even have kids or it could be much worse. Thankfully I don't have to hardly ever drive this car. I do not recommend a Saturn, I have had 2, and nothing but problems from both, (even from a Brand new car) Very dissapointing. (I didn't even mark the quality star because it is that bad of a car, but they didn't show that.)
The Saturn Ion that I purchased was for my daughter. The car is doing fine. This Saturn is in great shape; clean, neat, no dents or scratches. There have been no problems at all. It runs great and has been very dependable. My daughter loves it.
