I have been driving this car for about 9 months and I love it. The factory supercharged engine is underrated at 205bhp and give a wonderful kick while still getting about 30mpg on the highway. GM offers a stage II kit to bump this up to 245bhp that is covered under the warranty. The rear suicide "Quad Coupe" doors make getting to the backseat way easier than just a normal coupe, but its still a compact so there is not much room back there and the rear seats are buckets. The stock Recaro racing seats just hug me and make the vehicle as comfortable as a sports compact can be. Other than the seats thought the rest of the interior looks like it was made by Fisher Price because there is so much plastic, but you gotta sacrifice something to get that much performance for such a low price. The center mounted instrument panel seems very natural, the only part that takes any getting used to is that even when you make a left turn the blinker light on the dashboard is still on your right side, but after a while you get used to it. The exterior looks very aggressive with the Redline getting a different font bumper and alloy wheels than the rest of the IONs. The trunk space is awesome for such a little car. The ION I purchased has the in dash six-disc changer, High Definition FM digital tuner, XM Radio, and an Auxiliary Jack which all sound great, however the car only has four speakers. Mine is also equipped with OnStar which just for the hands free voice-command driven phone is awesome, it feels like you driving KITT from Knight Rider. I was able to connect this OnStar phone to my Google Voice account too so whenever my friends call me it rings to my car as well so my friends never have to guess if I am driving and I never have to answer my cell phone while driving. GM has had wonderful customer service with any requests that I have had. All in all I love this car and would recommend it to anybody looking for a compact car.
The 2006 Saturn Ion is a nice, mid-size car with decent gas mileage. It is a reliable car. It is probably one of the best American made cars in this price range.
I was delighted to find out that the car was equipped with OnStar, which is a great alternative to AAA roadside assistance, cell phone, GPS, etc. and the anti-theft capability. The remote door opener makes a locksmith not needed, unless one actually loses the keys. My only disappointment is the tires. I am not sure if they are the ones that came with the car, because the car only had 18,000 miles on it when I got it, but they are Goodyear, and they are slippery in the rain. This is the basic version...no automatic, or tinted windows , but the radio sound quality is excellent!
