One of the most fun cars to drive, and very comfortable, besides, its appearance is spectacular! I've had people stop and look as I'm driving by, maybe because they've not seen one, but it is very pleasing to see. Mine is the only color I wanted and has a manual transmission. Waited 2 years to run across this particular car.
I inherited a '92 Saturn SL1 and it grew to be one of my favorite cars, with incredible mileage and sporty handling. In 2004, I started looking at the new Ion and was pleased to find they did away with automatic seat belts and added security features that allow the trunk to be opened only with the key. The old Saturns had notoriously expensive windshields and the Ion's turns out to be much thicker and half the price. Our new Ion 3 was around $13k, with publicly-available deals, which is a bargain. After nearly 70k mi., the car has been very little trouble, consistently achieves 30 to 35 mpg, (manual trans), is mostly comfortable on long trips and has more than enough power. Not a single nick in the windshield and the finish looks as good as new. Parts are reasonably priced and the car is really easy to work on for home mechanics. Two things I do not like about the '04 Ion: 1.The electronic-assist steering feel annoys me but my wife doesn't notice. This particular part may be unreliable and a friend had his fail just outside of warranty. I prefer a power steering pump/gears. 2. I cannot get perfectly comfortable, armrest is a little weak and the center console sticks out enough that I need to angle my leg to use the accelerator. My bad back was fine on a 13 hour trip, however.
After searching for a year, I finally decide on the 2008 Saturn VUE for my pick as my first crossover, and I have not been disappointed. It everything i was looking for and more. The ride is great, ,and I love the style. Great pick up and go, lots of room, and seats five comfortable. best bang for my bucks.
