I wanted a Saturn Sky since they were first introduced on the market, but a few years ago I settled on the Pontiac Solstice which is nearly identical but not quite. I loved that car, but I never quite got over my yearning for the Sky, which is a little sleeker in the back and the grill is far more sophisticated. The interior, well, that's pretty much the same in every way, but one buys a roadster, it's all about the look and feel. I traded in the Solstice last year for a different vehicle altogether which only made me start looking for a Sky even harder. When I found this little black number on the Carmax website, I was in love and just HAD to have it! My salesman, Don, worked his butt off to make sure I got financing in place and within a few days I was driving her off the lot. I have to say, I love this car even more than I could have hoped. Being familiar with the interior made me feel right at home the minute I got in. It has great pick-up, a nifty little hum to the engine, just like a roadster should have. Not a great car for hauling stuff, that's not why I bought it, but with the top up, the trunk can fit enough for a weekend trip just fine. Even with the top down (it folds neatly into the trunk), there's some room for soft-sided luggage and what-not, so it works just fine for my needs. The passenger side serves well for toting groceries, so the only time I'm ever need of something bigger is when I have the big stuff (or more than just me and a passenger) to move. Yep, this is my dream car and I think the coolest moment (so far) was when the school bus passed me and I had kids leaning out the windows yelling "COOL CAR LADY! I WANT ONE!" My only regret is that Saturn doesn't exist anymore so I'll have to work real hard to make this one last a long long time. It can't be replaced with a newer model. :-(
This car is a blast to drive. I've owned a 2007 & 2008. Not many people know this but when you purchased this car new they had a dealer installed option. It was a larger Borg Warner Turbo giving you 300hp vs 260hp standard in the Red Line. My 2008 had that upgrade and the difference is night and day! I raced a new Mustang 5.0 V8 and we were dead even. His eyes were as big as a Frisbee! I just sold mine because some guy made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It was red w/red leather, perfect. Now I'm kicking myself. The only drawback on this car is they should of provided a bigger trunk to actually "take" this fun car somewhere. Maybe an overnight bag at best.
I have had my Sky for almost two years now. I am very pleased with the car as a second car. Anyone who buys this car as an everyday car has really missed the point. It's a toy, mostly with the look of a 'vette, but less money and less performance. I am 6'2" tall and couldn't fit in the Z the Crossfire convertible only the 350 Mercedes, but the Mercedes is as twice the price. I have only had it to the dealer for it's servicing and no complaints. I love driving the car as a toy and my work vehicle are two Volvo wagons. It's a day tripper car and one that gets more looks than cars of ten to 12 times it's value!
