I Love My 2008 Scion xB

2008 Scion xB Gary - Mississippi 03/23/2012

I wanted to give up my 8 cylinder Ford Expedition and go to a 4 cylinder, small format car. Being a professional photographer and amateur carpenter and musician, cargo space was extremely important to me. Being artistic and design oriented, good, unique looks was also important to me. My favorite looking cars are all very square and boxy, and the Scion xB filled all those bills. I love 95% of everything about this car. It is great fun to drive, holds an enormous amount of cargo for a car that on the outside looks small, and I think the quality is very fine for the price I paid. My only negatives are these: 1. Milage...It uses gas faster than I wish it did. It gets about 20 -24 mpg. But because it has a small, 12 gallon fuel tank, it can't even go 300 miles on a tank of fuel. I find that disappointing and inconvenient, since I don't enjoy breaking up a long trip with so many fuel stops. I wish it had a 16 gallon tank. 2. It has only a driver's side armrest in the center. None for my passenger, which embarrasses me. And the one that is there for the driver is very small and almost useless. I'm going to find a custom interior place to make me two decent custom armrests. 3. The automatic transmission is only a 4 speed, which is why the milage is not better. If Scion would change to a six speed transmission, as in my daughter's VW New Bug, (also from Car Max) I'm sure the car would get over 30 miles to a gallon. Even with those three complaints, I love my 2008 Scion xB and I thoroughly enjoyed buying cars from Car Max. They are so good at prepping a used car, that all three of the Car Max cars I have bought look showroom new. I intend to keep buying all my cars there, and I look forward to another, newer xB in the future, hopefully one that will have corrected the three or four things I mentioned. The Scion xB is a great, fun and unique looking car. A great purchase. Happy driving.

Nice Wagon

2008 Scion xB Rhonda Radford - Chicago, IL 07/13/2015

This is a stylish ride. It is fun to drive. My very large dog fits nicely in the back with the seats down. Feels a bit like a go cart. The gas milage is great using the 5 speed transmission. It does feel a little cheap. There is a lot of plastic and cardboard. There is no luxury here but it is a very utilitarian vehicle. Pretty darn pleased... so far.

2008 Scion xB Norm - Boynton Beach, FL 07/11/2014

NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels are too high, the manual transmission has throws that are long and clunky in between gears and the car is generally loud at speed. This car feels like the base model it is. When you close the doors there is a loud clang that resonates through the entire car from lack of sound insulation in the roof, my family and I now make a joke out of it as each one of us that climbs in the car must shout clang after they close the door, it's a sort of bonding experience. I've been in a 2013 / 14 and the NVH levels seem to be much much better. That being said this car is very practical in terms of space and is bulletproof in terms of reliability.
