This is a little car on the outside but a big car on the inside that gets pretty good gas mileage (25mpg) and has decent low speed acceleration.. I am pretty big myself and fit easily inside the car, front and back. The extra large doors also make it easy to get in and out. There is also a tremendous amount of head room in the car. It reminds me of the kind of head room in my brothers full size pickup. With the back seats down, you have a huge cargo box. You can get an object 57" long from the door to the back of the drivers seat. If you don't have a passenger, you can move the passenger seat up a few inches. This is the second xB I have owned. It is a very practical car.
I test drove a lot of cars in this class and the one thing most of them had in common was lack of power. Not this car. Lots of power. In fact, when you take off from a stand still, you have to be very careful or you will spin the tires a bit. Not sure what this will do to the life of the front tires. With all that power, you would think the gas mileage would suffer. But I'm getting 25 MPG. And the way I drive, that's amazing. Someone who doesn't tend to accelerate as fast as I do would probably get better gas mileage. It costs about half of what it did to fill up my old car, and I still fill up once a week. My old car was a Mercury Mountaineer that said it should get 18 MPG, but only got 16 MPG. The seats are pretty comfortable, but not great. No lumbar adjustment. Love the Aux plug so I can plug in my mp3 player. Stereo sounds good but doesn't have a lot of power, so if you like your music REALLY loud, you might want to upgrade the stereo. Love being able to change the volume on the steering wheel. The cruise control works well, but the controls seem backwards to me. Probably just used to my old car. The car doesn't have automatic headlights so you have to turn them on and off yourself, which is fine with me. Rear windshield wiper only covers middle 50% of back window. Main windshield wipers have only one setting for intermittent and it's not that long. Every other car I have owned since the 80's all had adjustments for the delay. Not this car. This is not a luxury car, but it's nice. When you take the features it has coupled with the gas mileage and the low price for the car, it's a really good value.
If you drive a Scion XB, you cannot drive anything else! I'm a converted Honda/Acura lover.. It is very comfortable to drive for long distances (12+hrs alone). Since the drivers seat sits upright, and not back like a car. So it's comfortable and also easy to drive. There isn't a lot of "get up and go" or big "OOPMH" behind it.. So if you're in the mountains, or driving up steep hills a lot, and in a hurry to go over 30mph.. you may want to get something more powerful. But once it's going, it goes! The engine runs quietly. There is TONS of room in the car. People are constantly impressed with the space I have. I've never run out of room. I can pack up for a trip and even bring my dog without a space issue. Only thing I wish it had that it doesn't, a light in the front of the car. The only one is in the back.. Also I'd love a sunroof! I've heard these cars last forever & that people don't ever get rid of them.. that Scion is like a cult.. But I agree, I get it! When this one is done.. I'll get another XB! I'm in the Scion cult for life now!
