Reviews for 2012 Smart Fortwo
Fun, great mileage, fantastic price!
Great little car
This is my first smart car I have purchased. I got the cabriolet version. My first impressions were that the car handles extremely well for being so small, and it will turn on a dime. The ride is small car ride style, meaning you feel pretty much every bump and crack in the road. That was the biggest adjustment for me coming from my crown vic. The basic stereo is good, not excellent though. It can be barely heard if you have the top down cruising at interstate speeds. I love the gas mileage, I consistently get 43-45mg with a 70/30 mix of hwy/city driving. For being an all gas vehicle, that cant be beat, I have motorcycles that got worse fuel mileage. Plus it is not a hybrid, so you dont have to worry about buying expensive batteries. I get a lot of comments on it, lot of people want to see inside and ask about it. These cars are not as popular as they once were in 2008 so you dont see as many on the road. The oil filter and drain plug for do it yourselfers is very easy to get to. You dont even need to jack up the car. The oil change intervalis 10k, which seems like a lot. I change it at 5k, just for peace of mind. Because the little 3 cylinder mitsubishi engine sometimes works hard for you. It is only 70hp, but it is enough to get you in and out of traffic safely providing youre not driving on a racetrack! Mine has rain sensing wipers, which are nice. Havent driven it in snow yet, otherwise it stays on track great even in a pouring rain. I would buy floormats for it , the carpet does seem a little thin and seems to wear quickly. The dash material a kind of fabric, is very nice, makes the car feel more classier than the price range its in. This is not a honda, so be carefulif you take this to the smart (mercedes benz) dealer for service. It will be expensive I have heard. I have an excellent local mechanic i trust to do 95% of the work to this car. The body panels are plastic and seem to hold up well, looking forward to not having a rusty car ten years from now. There is no spare tire, just a fix a flat can of sealant. I dont like that, but I realize a lot of vehicles are going to this now. The heated seats work quickly and get hot! In summary if you are looking for an urban commuter vehicle, to save gas and still have fun in at the same time, I would definitely recommend a smart car. I plan on keeping mine for a long time.
Awesome car and awesome experience
Every part of my experience was incredible from the first contact via email, and in person, Roxanne was easy to work with and competent. I would and will repeat my business again with Carmax
