Subaru Forester was the first to voluntarily install side air bags. To me that is a company committed to safety. Subaru's get the highest 5 star crash rating in govt testing, reliability is high, goes in the snow and any conditions safest care to own and drive. I'm an ex defensive driving instructor and safety and reliability is important to me. I dont like the 13's and newer models as they raised the height and hence center of gravity and dont hold the road as well and why i got an 11.

After some digging, it turns out this year/make/model is notorious for this issue, yet there are not any recalls in place to fix the issue. I would recommend going with another year of this model to avoid the same issue. This vehicle also does not get the fuel mileage that is stated in the vehicle details. I drive all highway miles and average 27 miles per gallon, not the stated 32.

Transmission: Automatic Color:Green Interior Color: Gray Average Vehicle Review: (4.143 reviews) terrible gas mileage. I upgraded from a honda fit because I needed more space to haul around my booth (I am an artists who does a lot of craft shows and needed a vehicle that could handle the weight) I expected the mileage to be close to the sticker (22city/27hwy) and seriously, total lies. I drive "highway" often, but the only time I saw 27 mpg was on a road trip (1400+ miles). I was regretting not getting the VW tdi diesel wagon, but now that VW was exposed for fraud regarding emissions, I am only moderately ok with choosing the subaru.

Everything that is really needed is there and it is in easy reach. The seat is comfortable and the drive is stable (not too bumpy). I love the height of it. Getting in and out of the car as well as loading groceries in the back is great. I like sitting a little higher for driving visibility and I feel safer. The dashboard indicators are a little sparse (bare minimum). I don't like how hard it is to see how fast I'm going (this should be digital or easier to see quickly on the dashboard). Overall, I wouldn't trade this car for anything.

I've never felt better or safer than with this car. Even like it better then Lincoln Town Car I had. Drives great, so comfy and SO many gadgets to play with. Plenty of power, good gas mileage. 17.455 for all in town short trips. 27 highway. So proud to own.

Transmission: Automatic Color:Black Interior Color: Black Average Vehicle Review: (5 reviews) The Subaru Forester XT version has a LOT more pep and responsiveness than the 2.5 litre engined Forester. Gas mileage suffers a little (we are currently getting between 24 and 28 highway and 20-24 in town) but the additional acceleration more than makes up for that. I like the AWD and the option to "manually" shift the car, and the S1 and S# gearing and suspension adjustment for windy roads or snow or rain. If you are really in the snow, you can select XMode which is like a four wheel drive mode for up to 25 miles per hour (it automatically drops out of Xmode above 24 MPH). Real leather seats. Nice stitching. Well appointed with dual air and heat. Heated front seats. HUGE sunroof with windbreak at front. Handles wonderfully.

I love Subarus, I just bought my 3rd one, I got the Forester Limited 2.51 and is worth every penny. The ride is so smooth, the car handles the curves great. It is quite and very spacious, the back seats have so much space, great for tall people. The trunk is big too. I have owned them for years, they have never given me any problems, I keep them updated with their services and maintenance. On top when you get them from the Subaru dealerships, you will always get great support.

Great car for family and fun

This Forester is the first car my wife and I ever purchased. We seriously spent months researching and test driving other cars before we settled on this one. There are a bunch of reasons why this car is great for family and fun. It was on the IIHS list of safest cars for 2006. It is consistently rated one of the best small SUVs on the market by Consumer Reports and Car and Driver. The turbo engine in this 2.5XT was named Engine of the Year in 2006. It has a giant sunroof that extends over the back seats, which is nice for our 11 month old daughter who loves to look around. Did I mention it is also really fast? It drives extremely well, and the gas mileage is fairly good given the power in this engine and the all-wheel drive (ave. 20 city and 27 highway). Only two knocks on this car: (1) though the cabin is generally spacious, it is a little tight when fitting my daughter's rear facing convertible carseat (shouldn't be a problem when she hits a year old and can sit forward facing); (2) takes premium gas (but living in Texas, premium is cheaper than regular unleaded in most other parts of the country, sorry). It is no wonder Subaru has such owner loyalty when they make cars as solid and fun to drive as this one.
