Reviews for 2009 Subaru Impreza
This was my dream car, I loved it and heard so many great things about the car. Unfortunately, 5 months after buying the car from carmax the transmission blew and had to be replaced. It kind of ruined my love for the car because it was no longer as trustworthy as it sounded to me.
This is very likely the best car I've ever owned. It's fun to drive, has a sporty feel, good pick-up, and handles flawlessly. Two weeks into owning it, I was driving south on I-75 and the skies opened up with one of Florida's nefarious thundershowers. Visibility was terrible, but was also the only reason I knew it was raining. The traction control and symmetrical AWD kept me glued to the road no matter how bad the showers got. In those conditions in all of my previous cars, I would have been maintaining 25 mph with the hazards on and a white-knuckle grip to the steering wheel all the while feeling the tires slipping around the road. The driver's side seat can be elevated with a lever on the side raising my vantage point several inches higher in the cockpit, yet still leaving ample headroom of at least 4 inches. I've read several professional car reviews of this model that criticize the trunk's interior midpoint slope, yet it's one of my personal favorite stowage features as it prevents your bags of groceries, etc. from sliding around the trunk and ending up in hard to reach places once you're home. Even if an item rolls out of a bag, it's right by the trunk latch for easy access and no strained reaching. The non-premium sound system is adequate, but the audiophile would certainly appreciate the upgraded system. When you shut the engine off, the headlights shut off, so there's no chance of running down the battery overnight due to careless error. You could actually leave the headlights in the On position full-time and forget about them. There is much hard plastic in the interior, but it's very firm and solid feeling, not thin and cheap like some other vehicles. The low tire pressure light came on the other day, and on brief inspection of the tires, it was not obvious a tire was underinflated. I added a little air, restarted the engine, and went on my way. I otherwise would likely have driven around on it like that for months before noticing myself. The fuel economy is compromised a bit due to the AWD, but in my urban driving, seems better than the EPA estimates. I have a relatively short work commute, and am on target for about 6 weeks on a single tank of gas, compared to 4 weeks in my previous car with similar EPA estimates. The body design is simple, sporty, and stylish, but does have a rather generic looking rear. The color on my Impreza is a bold reddish-orange Subaru calls Paprika Red Pearl that stands out in its uniqueness rather than blend in with so many other cars on the road with their equally fancy names for black, grey/silver, white, and navy blue. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase, and when it comes time to trade it in, I will almost certainly trade it for another Subaru, and quite possibly another Impreza.
I have owned 3 subaru's before this one including an outback sport and a WRX and I have to say that for the feel of the ride, this model takes the cake. If you want an economical car, all wheel drive, and good gas mileage, then this car is for you. The Subaru Impreza 2.5I has a sport mode for quick acceleration and a fun drive and will get you where you need to go in both style and comfort. The downside to someone looking for an enthusiasts car is that due to the all wheel drive the suspension is not very sporty, I have had the opportunity to take this car through it's paces on the hills of WV and I can tell you that the VW GTI has this car beat hands down, but for the overall price and the way it goes through the snow, you cannot beat it.
