Reviews for 2010 Subaru Outback
Handles Off Road and On
I did a lot of research on which vehicle would be appropriate for the types of traveling and exploring I do. Subaru repeatedly rose above the crowd when it came to safety, reliability and handling. They are expensive, though - And I was super-hesitant to purchase this vehicle because of cost. All of my concerns about price were abated completely when we got stuck in a flash flood coming back up the mountain (a mixture of dirt/clay roads, rough roads and paved roads) through tenuous switchbacks. In a torrential downpour, the outback handled as if the roads were dry and the skies were clear. It was AMAZING. It handles extremely well off-road and otherwise. Easy to figure out controls, etc and spacious.
roomy and powerful
I have the 3.6R engine, and it's a powerhouse. More get up and go when you need it. Interior is very roomy, and well designed for maximum storage. The interior quality is good but not great. Nice features like reclining rear seats, stow away roof rack, plenty of cubby holes, and much more. The only negative is no rear air vents, so the back seat is hot/cold. Overall an excellent vehicle that is practical and stylish with a nice quiet and comfortable ride.
My new "camping" vehicle
Bought this car because the van I was using to go camping was getting old and unreliable. Two weeks after purchase we went to Missouri and Arkansas to look at some land in the Ozarks; went through some very rough paths to get to some properties, no problem for this baby, took the hills, rocky terrain, bumps, sand, without a problem. All wheel drive worked wonderfully, ride was comfortable, gas pedal control could be a little "tighter". I love the automatic lights, don't need to worry about turning lights on or off. Seat adjustments make long drives tolerable and very comfortable. Some fun surprises: storage places just above the spare tire, all the little pockets up front for sunglasses, garage door remotes, connectors for your mp3 players, 12 volt plug-ins in the elbow rest box up front and one in the back, for other "toys" needing power. Mileage is quite good for a car with AWD. No more bright lights reflecting in the rear view mirror. No antenna to get bent out of shape by car wash brushes. Good job Subaru! Can't wait to take this thing camping!
