Fuel efficient, road hugging, spacious, nice amenities and very comfortable. With its 6-speed switchable automatic/manual transmission its at home on the highway as on two lane windey mountain roads -- a real pleasure to drive; I thought I would miss the 5-speed of my Scion xA but the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters fill in just fine. My driving is 50/50 Interstate and surface and my Outback consistently gets around 30mpg. With the rear seats lowered it has more cargo area than my son's Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The reason I bought this car is because for the amount of space you get, you're still not spending unreasonable amounts of cash on gas.
It has great gas mileage. Tons of storage. All seats (including the back seats) recline. Which is helpful for long road trips. It's got great handling good ground clearance and plenty of head space for the cowboys out there that like to keep their hats on. The all wheel drive and smart traction control allows for safe handling in the snow, rain, and other adverse weather conditions. All around it's a great vehicle that you can still drive in the city and parallel park without hassle.

I have had lots of trouble with this car. For one thing, I was not aware the ALL Subarus have a tire issue. If ONE of your tires goes bad (worn on one side, hole in it, etc) you have to replace all FOUR due to the Symmetrical AWD. Also this AWD burns more gas and wears your tires out more quickly than a 2 wheel drive car. I recently spent $4000 on a new transmission and timing belt at mileage 90,000. I have had electrical issues also.
