I have owned 2 Tribecas. Both of them were very nice and reliable! No problems at all! The only negative issue I had was the bad gas mileage. If you want a good quality vehicle you can't go wrong with this car.
Drives through just about anything. Stable, fair pickup, Heavy crossover that I average 20 MPG per tank. Safe for my young drivers.
2008 Subaru Tribeca - Florida09/19/2011
The transmission in this car is awful! Either Subaru didn't match the transmission to the engine when they increased the horsepower in 2008, or it 's just a poor job of quality control. The transmission is slow to downshift causing a noticeable stutter, or vibration before it shifts. You can overcome this by either letting off the gas so that the rpm's drop allowing it to shift, or speeding up so that the transmission downshifts to provide more pickup, and higher rpm's. If you are driving in traffic, you do not have the ability to slow down or speed up when you need to; you have to live with the vibration.
I have tried driving in "sport" mode, and using the "manual shift" option, but neither correct the problem.
Do not buy a Tribeca!
