I never bought a foreign car, but when Saturn went out of business and I looked at the price of the Ford Edge compared to the Tribeca, I started doing some research. I was impressed by the gas mileage, the bells and whistles and the appearance and most of all the price. During my research, I saw some bad reviews about the mirrors being in bad spots or being to small and leaving blind spots. Let me assure you, that is NOT the case. I'm only 5'2" and I don't have any problems with blind spots; there are even "cut outs" in the front side windows so you have additional LOS. This is the best car I've ever owned. I get 17 mpg on average and have to drive in rush hour traffic every day. I just took a 400 mile road trip and got 23 mpg on the interstates. The seats are very comfortable and it's very roomy, even for my grown kids in the back seat. Also, they love that ALL seats in the car recline. I recommend this car!
I only wish Subaru would work on a power assist for the back hatch. As a small woman, I find it very heavy...am building some good arm muscles! That is about the only drawback...except that I had hoped for better mpg. I am getting about 13 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway. I was hoping for more. Now, I know this is a V6 and all wheel drive...but it should still get more mpg's. It is very quiet and comfortable. My husband has mobility issues and we had to get a car that would be fitting for him and this works well! We had a Subaru many years ago and it served us well...we look for a long relationship with 'Becky'....
We have the 2009 limited with 3rd row seat for about 2 years now and have put over about 20k on it. Though some don't care much about the exterior.... In my book it is a solid contender. The handling is a bit more sporty and the suspension is gonna be on the stiffer side but boy... This crossover/SUV handles. More like your European counterpart than your other Japanese brands. It is very reliabille and dependeble. It sits just right as far as the heights and ride much like a car. It feels solid and SAFE on the road especially with our little ones in the back. The e subaru legendary symmetry all wheel drive puts 40/60 split so you get that rear wheel drive feel. It handles all fairly well in all types of weather. The only "con" that I have is the MPG and the fuel tank is slightly smaller for a size of this beast. I get around avg 18mpg combine and about 200-220 per tank only. Otherwise.. You will enjoy this SUV for years to come. Hope this helps.
