This SUV is so much fun to drive! I love the big engine sound when it starts and you sit up high and have good visibility. It does handle like a truck but that's exactly what I like about it. It is not boring! Sometimes I just like to drive without having anywhere to go because it is so nice to drive. This is my third SUV and first 4 runner and while I liked my other SUVs I never enjoyed driving like I do now. I am a 55 year old housewife and my husband would have let me buy whatever I wanted but this was the one for me.
I got my '96 4Runner in summer 2007 when it had 140,000 miles on it. Now, just over 1 year later, I've put 27,000 miles on it. It's a Toyota, so I expect it'll go forever. I do live in Maine, so rust is an issue with all the salt and sand on the winter roads. I do have a few rust spots. I love my 4Runner for a few reasons: 1) Space - I fold the rear seats down and I have tons of room for anything imaginable, particularly my dog and camping equipment, as well as the ability to tow my boat, etc. 2) MPGs - Yes, this is an SUV but I've never had lower than 20 MPG. 21 is my average, which I'm happy with. 3) It's a beast in snow. I've always driven AWD Subarus, but having 4WD and the power of my 4Runner has been great in Maine winters! 4) My only maintenance has been oil changes and new front brakes. Toyotas are totally reiliable. I'll probably drive this 4Runner until 200K miles, when I can afford to upgrade to a newer one. Hopefully a new one will still get 20 MPG+ like mine!
I have had my 4runner limited for 4 years now I still love this vech everything works perfect just replaced brake pads if you want a trouble free vech get yourself a 2005-2009 4runner and keep the oil changed , rotate your tires and forget about your transportation problems for a very long time. It runs on regular unleaded , excellent ride keep it washed and waxed you won't regret your purchase and it holds it resale value. And you will be happy like me.
