I definitely love my 2004 Solar Yellow Toyota Matrix. It is eye catching (with the yellow paint), it gets good gas mileage(31 avg), I can fit most anything I need to in the cargo area with the seats down, and to top it off I've had no problems with it in my period of ownership (52k-70k). There is also enough leg and head room for me (I'm 6'2") and plenty of storage compartments and backseat pockets for all my clutter (the rest I just stuff under the seats). In addition, the standard audio system works great and does a good job at hiding most of the road noise. The road noise isn't bad 'til you get on the hwy, but you can still comfortably hold a conversation with your passengers without fear of the noise drowning you out. Other complaints: When riding on rough asphalt you'll definitely feel it. The power is just adequate. the car starts quickly from a stop and will get you up a steep hill fine, but I could definitely use more when passing on the hwy. Overall, if you're looking for a practical, nice looking, reliable wagon this is a good choice.
I was driving a Toyota Yaris for the gas mileage after having driven a plush Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. I missed the great stereo, the arm rest and automatic steering and great brakes. I loved the hatchback for carrying things and I found all of these things in the Matrix. It is roomy, and it is comfortable to drive and to ride in, plenty of room for everyone. The gas mileage is almost as good. The Matrix does not jump off the starting line like the Stick Shift Yaris, but it is a comfortable and safe feeling ride.
After buying the car at first we were happy with it. About 2 weeks after buying the car we started having problems with the transmission. We took it back to the dealer and they replaced the whole clutch system. Then after we picked it up out of the shop about 1 week later we found that it was very hard to start the car because you have to press the clutch down all the way to the floor to start the car. After driving the car for about another week it was hard to start out in first gear and when you shirt from 1st to 2nd gear it is fine.and so on. So far it has been very disapointing because the problem is still not fixed. Other than that the car is great it could use a few more horses under the hood cause i think it lacks in that area but i guess i have to remember its not a 68 firebird with a 400 bigblock LOL.
