Best Vehicle I have Ever Owned!
One of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Rates right up there with my very first Toyota Prius I had many years ago!
The 2010 Toyota Prius
I purchased this car as a replacement for another that was totaled in a fire. I was interested in a Hybrid both for fuel efficiency (cost) and as a step towards reducing greenhouse emissions and dependency on fossil fuels. I bought just prior (a week or so) to all the news about runaway acceleration, braking problems, and so on that are now plaguing Toyota (and apparently other manufacturers, as well). To date, I have had no problems whatsoever with the car, and I don't really anticipate any. Mileage has been great, it is lovely to fill the tank only 1-2 times per month (unlike previously when it was 2-3 times per week at 31 mpg) despite commuting a long distance and lots of driving in general (a mix of highway and local). The interior of the car is well laid out and nicely appointed. My only negative comments is that I am a fairly large person - well, to be fair, I am really overweight/obese - and I find that the new console where the shift lever sits in the Prius is a little close for comfort, but other than that, i am perfectly happy with the car. I doubt that most people would feel the same way I do about the console. I do find the location of the shift lever to still not be intuitive - I first reach elsewhere, then remember to look for it, still. I found the split rear window a bit disconcerting at first, but have gotten used to it. I did not get the backup camera; that might have been worthwhile to avoid the issue with the split rear window, but it is not necessary, and now I don't think I would use it if it were installed. I think that the external appearance of the car is perfectly acceptable. Overall, I like the car, I like driving it, and it runs well. I would recommend it.
Good car Bad comfort
I owned a 2010 prius for 3 months. It was a very nice car. Not put together very well though. The center armrest had to be fixed 5 times and was broken when it was traded in. The door armrest also broke 1 time. I did get 42-48 mpg driving my usual 500 or so miles a week. My problem with it was after 4 weeks I started up with back pain that was so bad it sent me to the er. I then had 3 weeks of physical therapy. I put in lumbar support thinking it would help and unfortunatly it did not. I then had no choice but to get rid of it. I got where I could not stand to drive across town with it. Which was a problem since I drive 75 miles to work and back every day. I got to where I was driving 85 mph just to get to and from as fast as I could go. With all of this I learned that a tall heavy set person should not buy a prius. I loved all the cool features but it was not a good fit.
