2009 RAV4 Limited

The RAV4 always receives excellent ratings for quality, performance, resale value, etc. and all of that is true so I won't go on about it. However, I owned a 1998 RAV and now the 2009, and one consistent thing is that the seats are not high on the comfort scale. They could be a lot worse, but they could be better. It should be deeper from the seat front to the back, for one thing. Not everyone would think it is uncomfortable and it shouldn't be the deciding factor when the car has so much more going for it. The only real complaint I have about this RAV, which I didn't even know to consider when I bought it, is the paint. It is Black Forest Pearl, which is basically dark green metallic paint. I didn't like the color but the car had all the goodies including running boards, so I decided to grin and bear it. I always like a silver or grey color but figured I would live with the green. The problem is the metallic paint. First, you can't use polishing compound on it, so if it gets a ding you have to live with it or put touchup paint over it. Second, the dings show up WHITE! I guess the primer is bright white, because any little scratch is then an obvious white. The paint doesn't even need to be scratched through to the white though to look ugly. Whoever had this car before me must have had long fingernails, because the paint has ugly surface scratches under the handles that again, I can't polish out (with only 11000 miles too). Waxing didn't help either. I found some shiny plastic clear "decals" to stick on under the handles, and I'm hoping that makes it look better. The metallic "effect" is not worth these negatives either, because it really is barely noticeable unless you are standing right next to the car. The main effect is that, depending on what kind of light is shining on it (sun, street light, etc.) the color of the car appears green, black, or blue. Well, that does nothing for me. Lastly, the dark color shows every bit of dirt or water spots way too much. So, a total thumbs up for everything but the paint (with a shrug for the seat comfort), and a COMPLETE thumbs down for the dark metallic paint. Toyota really screwed up on this. I would never buy another car with that kind of paint, and I wish I had known about this before I bought it because I would have passed right by this car to another RAV with plain paint, and because it is going to be a source of buyer's remorse every day I own this car, which "unfortunately" will probably be decades! I hope this helps you get a RAV you will love completely and avoid my regrets.
