Best family car EVER
My quest for a family car started 10 years ago when my kids were smaller and lugging around three little ones seemed impossible in my ford contour; which by the way broke down and made my decision easier. I initially disliked minivans having driven a dodge caravan for work purposes and was never impressed by their handling and looks plus having to take out the HEAVY seats . Anyway, my wife forced me to look at all the obvious choices and Honda and Toyota where at the top of our list. I initially took the early model Sienna, Previa, and again was not trilled by the van; I preferred the odyssey . However, as we were looking around at the Toyota dealer , they happened to have received a NEW redesigned sienna. My wife immediately took it for a drive as I messed with every gadget available on this van from the passenger seat. Being an avid cyclist I wanted to see if I could comfortably carry my bikes, without having to take out any seats or breaking my back, Voila this van offered flexible collapsible seats that allowed easy travels for a couple of bikes, buddies and gear; I was happy in that respect when the salesman provided a TEST bike, convinced. Heh heh heh, my turn to drive, I took it for a drive and felt it offered very good handling and good power; much better than I expected. It had great pickup, passing powerr and it felt smooth on the road. Man I could use a sunroof !!!. I immediately felt comfortable driving it and it responded well to my every maneuver. Finally for the ultimate test. I asked my mom to bring the triplets over. I put in all the car seats in place and bolted the triplets in; including all their necessaties, diaper bags and strollers. I folded one of the back seats and added the bike with the front wheel off . The salesman rode shotgun and my wife took one of the middle seats. EVERYONE FIT COMFORTABLY !!!!; It felt like a CLOWN CAR. I then proceeded to the highway and took it for a 5 mile SPEED, HANDLING, POWER ride; salesman was good with it. I got curious and turned on the gas mileage counter and was surprised that it was even good on gas , 22 miles per gallon; Not bad for a Family VAN. THIS VAN ROCKS, I told the salesman, SOLD. I am now on my second sienna and have traded the diaper bags for sports equipment, soccer and gymnastics. I would only consider trading it in for another sienna with the SPORTS package and a SUNROOF; got beat by the DVD package. Otherwise my buddies love it cause it allows them to find that confy stretch they seek after riding for 100 miles on a bike. They agree their SUV's are not as comfortable and flexible.
Can't beat a Toyota!
My wife and I have been driving almost nothing but Toyotas since the late 1970s. There's good reason for that. After I got nothing but problems from my full-sized 1972 Chevy pickup and nothing but grief from GM I swore that I'd switch to Japanese cars, which I did and have never looked back. We currently have a 1993 SR-5 pickup with over 250K miles and a 1994 Lexus ES-300 with over 225K miles. Both are entirely reliable and well-made vehicles. When we bought the Sienna, we expected the same quality that we've gotten from Toyota in the past and so far, it is living up to our high expectations. The car is solid on the road. It handles well and is quiet. Fuel mileage is about 23 for a mix of highway and city. Once again. quite acceptable. Like our other Toyotas, it abounds with nice little touches such as many convenient little storage places - it has TWO glove compartments! All the amenities work well and it's a pleasure to drive. I really can't think of any substantial way in which the car could be improved.
Very Happy with the Sienna
My husband and I went car shopping with the intention of getting an SUV. I was determined NOT to drive a minivan EVER. However, after reluctantly being dragging over to the Sienna, I fell in love with it. It truly had everything I was looking for--space for my 6'3" husband, our 6 month old baby and any siblings she may have in the future, bucket seats, leather interior, DVD system, V6 engine, etc. And a sliding door that opens with the touch of a botton is a piece of heaven when you are lugging around a 16 pound baby in a carseat! I will admit, even after taking it home, I still had the occasional, "Oh my gosh, what did I do" thoughts. But, after 2 months with it now, I could not be happier. It has made my life and our roadtrips to see family so much easier and more comfortable.
