I bought a 4WD, Reg. Cab., with the SR5 pkg. At first I was apprehensive of getting the 4cyl; but after having it for a couple of months I'm very satisfied with it's power. 160hp is enough for me. I don't have anything to tow, nor a need for a back seat. The Reg. Cab with the 4cyl is ample for me considering the price difference is several thousand dollars for extended cab with a V6. It seems to have enough power. (tested in the Rocky Mountains) I got 4WD because I take it snowboarding. I also wanted the SR5 pkg. It just looks nicer with the chrome bumper & grille, and also the color matched fenders. I like outdoor activities and my Tacoma is perfect for that. The bed rail system is awesome! There are limitless possibilities for loading your gear in the back with it. Overall, my Tacoma has met and exceeded my expectations. I think everyone should have one.
If there was a 'maybe' response, I'd choose it. The ride is tolerable. The TRD Off-Road package (with 4WD) is very capable off-road. Handling is not bad for a truck with an off-road oriented suspension and off-road tires. It is a maneuverable package and fits fairly well in tight spots. Fuel economy- I'm unable to hit the combined EPA rating. My highway mileage averages about 18-19 MPG driving slow. I don't tow. I usually have about 50 lbs worth of gear in the bed. Power is not bad. However, it feels like it is all in the higher rev range. In the 25k miles I've had it, one of the rear brakes leaked. The transfer case leaked. The power steering rack had to be replaced. One of the rear back-up sensors failed and had to be replaced.
Can't go wrong with a Toyota truck. Solidly built, excellent fit and finish, and gorgeous lines. Designed for long-term reliabity. Plenty of power for towing. The 2WD Prerunner features an automated limited slip differential mode for sticky situations.
