Look real good before you put your money down

I purchased a new 2008 Tundra 4 door double cab in late May this year with the IForce 5.7 engine an 6 speed auto trans. I have 40 years of new pick up truck ownership and experience totaling 12 trucks. My wife urged and encouraged me to try the Tundra over another Chevrolet. The Tundra has some great features such as red glow instrument panel lighting, lots of nifty storage spaces, a transmission temperature gauge and a time and temperature readout mounted top center of the dash. You can see Toyota set out to make truck owners happy. Now, power is so goooood 381 hp plenty of torque, 18 inch wheels and tires, ride is not stiff enough, and the truch should be higher like the Ford f-250 this would make it more trucky. Lots of heavy duty components, drive shaft, ring gears, exhaust headers and brakes make it a prety good truck. Then why did i rate it average? Transmission is supposed to be some real technical equipment and the owners cannot check the fluid level as there is no dip stick, it must be checked by toyota dealers with a scan tool at a temperature od 109 degrees. Check out prices just for oil pans on this transmission and you will find that in years to come when the warranty is long gone most of us will not be able to pay the thousands of dollars needed to repair or replace it. I bought the truck for retirement to keep for many years, now i am sorry i did and i have already had a few bad encounters with Toyota and my dealer over warranty issues. Very cheap company and quality is not what it used to be, Toyota is selling on its old quality coat tails and if you take a good look before you buy you will agree. Don't be fooled by all the hype shown on television, these trucks are very expensive to repair and who really wants to argue when you have a warranty. Be careful, look at Chevy and Ford. Good Luck.

Tundra 5.7L

my first pick-em up truck. If Toyota continues to make them like this, it will be my choice vehicle for a long time... The option for a diesel would be nice, though.

Disappointed

I wish I could undo this Tundra purchase and get my 4Runner back. Build quality is atrocious! Tons of rattles and squeaks, cheap plastic everywhere, been in the shop 5+ times for warranty work, etc. I've had it 8 months and if I wouldn't take such a beating getting rid of it, it would be HISTORY! Think long and hard before you pull the trigger on one of these.
