So far so good

Pretty Good Truck

I owned a 2008 Tudra CrewMax. It was a "pretty good" truck. It was the first "Foreign" car I had ever owned. Initially it was all I wanted in a truck and more. After living with it for 21 months, the flaws started to appear. While looking tough, you start to realize that the sheetmetal is thin and the paint is really fragile, but I understand this is pretty much a standard across the auto industry since they have to use water based paints now. The tailgate always felt like it was too light weight. I was afraid to sit on it as the owner groups on the internet all have picture and tell horror stories about the tailgate splitting along the seams. By all reports Toyota fixed this, but it still felt a little flimsy to me. I definitely would be scared to death to use ramps to drive a 4 wheeler or something up in the back. And the "bed wiggle and bounce" going down an even remotely rough road was not what I would have expected from a truck of this amount of $$$. It made it look like the frame wa really "flexible" back there. I had to have the radio replaced three times before they could get one that would not quit working. Like I said, it was a "pretty good" truck and while I would not rule out buying aother one in the future if my needs required a pick-up truck, I would seriously consider a Ford too.

2008 Tundra

I bought a regular cab, short bed, 2wd V-6 powered Tundra. The cab is very roomy and there is a large amount of storage area behind the 40-20-40 seat. You can fit an adult third passenger in the middle for short trips. Power is adequate for light hauling but if towing opt for a V8. Mileage has averaged at just above or below 20 mpg. The truck turns in a short radius considering the size. One thing I feel is a negative - even in the 2wd Tundra the truck is high off the ground, it sits as high as the 4wd, you have to climb up to get in and drop down to get out unless you get nerf bars or a step. Also Toyota's in general are pricier than the competition but I have had 2 other Toyota's and have had very little problems - worth the extra $$ to me.
