I love this car!

This car is great for someone like me who loves a small 4-door hatch but also likes having fun. This car really gets up and goes when you step on the gas and it's so much fun to jump on the highway and go for a ride. Although it's not the best on gas it's not bad. I get a lot of miles out of my tank and it's usually a good time. Even though the car is small you can actually fit quite a lot of stuff in the back end with the seats down. I moved clear across the country and fit the majority of my small stuff in this car. It has been an awesome journey since I've had this awesome car. Even though it did have one trip to the mechanic and cost quite a bit for the repair, it runs like new even after almost 80,000 miles.

Pros

  • Ride and Handling: It handles great and even does pretty sweet burn outs for a front wheel drive car.
  • Power: I love the way this car picks up when you step on the gas!

Cons

  • Cost to Maintain: It's expensive to keep up with this car or really and VW but they're worth the money.
  • Fuel Economy: I wish this car did a little better on gas. I guess I just have to get used to spending a little more and getting a little less out of each tank.

GTI - great all around car, practical and fun to drive!

Many reviews rate this as the best handling car under $30k new and I agree. It's power handling and practical back hatch make it a total package.

Pros

  • Fuel Economy: 30+ mpg
  • Ride and Handling: handles like a go kart
  • Power: Turbo 4 has plenty of power

Great mileage and durability for the price

First and foremost it gets great mileage and that is why I bought it. VW has been making these little diesel engines for a long time and if you maintain them they will treat you right for many years. Seats are comfortable, technology inside is good, and the six speed manual is fun to drive.

Pros

  • Fuel Economy: I've gotten as good as 46mpg on a trip and average 40mpg with my regular driving. Awesome!
  • Cargo Space: Seems weird to put cargo space as a Pro but there is more space than I expected especially with the options of folding down part or all of the back seats.
  • Seat Comfort: Good solid seats

Cons

  • Cabin Noise: Maybe I'm being a little picky on this point but there has to be something to complain about, at speeds you hear more road noise than other vehicles I've been in but it's not bad.
