I got this car used my Sophomore year. I was surprised by the performance this car had to offer, its quick acceleration and stickiness to the road was impressive. This car has saved my life (from my parents) on two occasions. I had to stop when someone on the highway slammed on their brakes on an over pass, the ABS brakes stopped the car incredibly fast. Secondly, I went off-road on a wet day and this thing stuck to the ground and got me back on the road with no scratches on me or the car at all. I definitely recommend this car to anyone who wants both safety and performance in their car.
Comfortable, economical yet fun to drive, great looks
I can't say enough about what great cars these are. My Golf (4 door, red, 5 cylinder ) is awesome. It is the perfect car for dealing with the city, and the visibility I have on highways is outstanding. With 5 cylinders I have the power I need to escape the insane people on the roads who have such important phone calls and rage issues, and I do so in comfort, with hands free calling. It looks great, stores plenty in the trunk, and is easy to clean. The gas mileage varies depending on conditions (as any car will,) but my day to day is a healthy dose of cities and highways, and I live in Atlanta. Even with the AC on during the past few Summer months, I was able to land on the high side of 33mpg. As the weather has been cooling off, I have seen it getting even better numbers like the fantastic mileage I was getting when I first fell in love with this model while renting one in Los Angeles. It's a very peppy and sporty car in the modern versions, and my girlfriend jokes about my adoration of mine, calling it my "baby," with just a hint of jealousy. I've never been a "car person" because of the nasty expenditures of gas so common to such love affairs, but I have to admit that I definitely caught the VW bug (pun totally intended) since I bought my Golf.
