Reviews for 2008 Volkswagen GTI
Great Car for the Money
GTI is consistantly rated on the Car and Driver top 10, and its not hard to see why. Refined ride, strong pull from any gear, and solid feel.
A car for enthusiasts
I've loved cars all my life, built hot rods as a youth and owned many sports cars since, but never found the perfect blend of performance, economy and comfort I enjoy in my GTI. Want performance? choose the gear of your choice on the fly to upshift or downshift without taking your hands off the steering wheel. The suspension is just right, provides tight handling without punishing you when you are in the rough. The six speed transmission gives you a low gear so low that it overcomes turbo lag. Want economy? get more mpg by using higher gear ratios and engine braking to save wear and tear on the pads. The transmission lets you do all of these good things, but doesn't let you punish the engine - as you slow down it automatically downshifts if you don't remember to do it yourself. In short, it is a pleasure to drive a car that has clearly been designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, much more fun to drive than the usual warmed-up gussied-up family car.
What A Rush!
Was looking for a vehicle that was fun to drive, four doors and fuel efficient... The MkV GTI fit the bill perfectly. The performance factor of this vehicle trumps all but the very high end sports cars and is highly drivable on a daily basis. Features such as leather seating, heated seats, xenon headlamps, lit footwells, eye-catching alloy wheels and a sophisticated twin-cluth transmission (DSG) easily separate the GTI from other more mundane vehicles in its class. The handling is refined yet has just enough "zip" to keep a broad smile on the driver's face. Despite the premium fuel recommendations, fuel efficiency is rather good even with spirited driving. NVH quality may not be as good as the Japanese counterparts but not overwhelmingly bad either. Overall, the GTI is a wonderful car with many fine qualities and provides a driving experience usually reserved for much higher-priced performance vehicles.
