I've owned a Mk4 jetta model year 00-05 great car very reliable. Parted ways at 236k miles. I've always been a loyal Volkswagen owner due to the amazing design of them paired with the sportyness and overall entry level luxuries such as genuine leather seats that are heated all my Volkswagens have had stunning interiors
All and all I myself am a Volkswagen enthusiast and will only drive Volkswagens but I guarantee that anyone who gets there first Volkswagen will be amazed.
Only problem I've had is dealer went cheap an the scratches it had they tried covering up with a paint pen.
Fantastic performance and fuel economy in a car with plenty of room for 4 people. That 1.8 TSI Engine is awesome. I just drove a rental model back from Reno and in 205 miles averaging 77mph it got 41.4MPG according to the computer. Driving the car for over 500 miles in a week I have used 35 bucks worth of gas. Thats 1/4 of a 14.5 gallon tank to drive over 200 miles. Thats just mind boggling. Do the math. Its rare to have a car that exceeds the predicted MPG, while driving at 80 + with your foot in it.
Incredibly good handling, nice high rev power with the turbos, and surprisingly good fuel economy over long trips (34 mpg). I rent many "premium" vehicles as part of my job - I always love getting back in my 2014 GLI. The MK6 frame is very well balanced and the 2.0L turbo is perfectly matched in regards to power:weight ratio. The GLI is not trying to be a muscle car - but you will absolutely go through front tires every 10k if you buy a soft compound and drive aggressively.
