I am at about 1300 miles from the day of purchase and I really like this car. I picked the VR6 with 4 motion and it is really fun to drive. It was a good price for the year and had less then 30,000 miles on it. No issues at all so far. It has kick, handles really well and I love the interior and the navi. I also really like the seats and the room. I am 6'4 and I need room but did not want a really big car. It has plenty of room for me and my family with 2 car seats in the back. Good size trunk too. Already had it in 4' of snow and it got around great, even stopping right in the middle of a big hill and starting again. I didn't even spin the tires once. Highway gas mileage is good, city mileage is a little below average but I kind of knew that would happen given the VR6 motor and the AWD. Still learning the gadgets inside. The voice activation and the Bluetooth phone set up seem to be a little hidden away in the owners manual but I will find them. And lastly... It looks great with the 18 inch alloy rims and has really nice lines. So overall this was a great buy for me.
I am very happy with the VW Passat I was able to purchase through CarMax. It is EXTREMELY CLEAN WITH LOW MILEAGE. My VW has more luxury features than I would know to ask for!! I especially love the key push start. I have carpal tunnel in both hands and the twisting motion traditional vehicles have aggravate my condition. This car is a real value and I am forever happy with my car purchase.
Our family has owned a 2008 Komfort Passat Wagon for 2yrs. At first we just loved it until we broke down on the side of the road, stranding us. The outcome of this incident was a new transmission at only 28k miles. About 1000 miles later leaving our neighborhood the warning came on to turn engine off, turned around went home, parked the car in the garage until could get to the dealership. The result was no oil in engine, apparently they are having a problem with the car using too much oil. The dealership ran a month check on the oil, did not fail the VW specs so nothing was done. The manager in service helped us get a valve job which got approved and went back in the shop. The next major problem occured 2 weeks after we had the 40k service. We took the car on a road trip 9 hrs away from home. On the way home at 7:30 am on a Sunday morning the transmission died on the highway over pass far far from home putting us in a dangerous situation. We got the car towed to the nearest dealership left it there and rented a car to come home. We no longer wanted the car and were determined for VW to buy it back. They shipped the car back to us. VW corp would not do a thing for us and the dealership offered a very low buy back figure. It did not qualify as a lemon, but I would not recommend this particular VW to anyone. It may be fun but is not reliable and spends too much time in the shop. We have gotten rid of the car.
