Hands Down The Passat Beats The Accord.
I bought a 2008 VW Passat Used, with a little over 22k on it. I have only own this vehicle for 3months but I have to say, It has stolen my heart. Prior to going to the dealership, I had my eyes set on a 2009 Honda Accord. Mainly because of Honda's reputation for making durable cars. I walked in with intentions of leaving with a Accord, Left in a Passat. In the end, I was happy with my decision. I test drove the passat first (Honda never had a chance). The first thing I noticed was how comfortable it was. ( I bought the Komfort edition with Leather seats ). Big nice sunroof, heated leather seats, very clean, and very simple controls; which is a good thing because I am a "Get in and Drive Kinda Guy". While driving, the interior was really quite, the ride was very smooth, and let me tell you...This thing can move!!! You can definately feel the turbo, this car was made for passing. Although it was fun to drive. At that time, I still thought I would leave with a accord...but then I test drove the accord. Again, the first thing I noticed was how uncomfortable the accord was compared to the Passat, and I also noticed how loud you can hear the engine even with the window's up. Regardless of the fact, I expected the drive to be faster. Sadly, that wasnt the case... Even though the Accord had 268 HP compared to the Passat's 200hp +turbo, The Passat clearly accelerated faster. Unless your in europe driving on the autobahn, I wouldnt recommend getting the extra horsepower, because I sure didnt notice the extra power, espcially with gas prices these days. After driving both cars, the only thing that stood out with the accord was how spacious the interior was compared to the Passat...Besides that, the accord seems lacking. This car is awesome. Everything from its classy look to its gas mileage. I get outstanding gas mileage for a car with turbo ( drove from ATL to Orlando with 1tank ). I love everything about this car and have no regret. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a Sedan.
I bought this car for my college age son. He is thoroughly enjoying it. The car has a four cylinder turbo charged with great acceleration. Overall, the car has a very high quality feel to it.
Never buying a VW again.....
Our family has owned a 2008 Komfort Passat Wagon for 2yrs. At first we just loved it until we broke down on the side of the road, stranding us. The outcome of this incident was a new transmission at only 28k miles. About 1000 miles later leaving our neighborhood the warning came on to turn engine off, turned around went home, parked the car in the garage until could get to the dealership. The result was no oil in engine, apparently they are having a problem with the car using too much oil. The dealership ran a month check on the oil, did not fail the VW specs so nothing was done. The manager in service helped us get a valve job which got approved and went back in the shop. The next major problem occured 2 weeks after we had the 40k service. We took the car on a road trip 9 hrs away from home. On the way home at 7:30 am on a Sunday morning the transmission died on the highway over pass far far from home putting us in a dangerous situation. We got the car towed to the nearest dealership left it there and rented a car to come home. We no longer wanted the car and were determined for VW to buy it back. They shipped the car back to us. VW corp would not do a thing for us and the dealership offered a very low buy back figure. It did not qualify as a lemon, but I would not recommend this particular VW to anyone. It may be fun but is not reliable and spends too much time in the shop. We have gotten rid of the car.
