Never buying a VW again.....
Our family has owned a 2008 Komfort Passat Wagon for 2yrs. At first we just loved it until we broke down on the side of the road, stranding us. The outcome of this incident was a new transmission at only 28k miles. About 1000 miles later leaving our neighborhood the warning came on to turn engine off, turned around went home, parked the car in the garage until could get to the dealership. The result was no oil in engine, apparently they are having a problem with the car using too much oil. The dealership ran a month check on the oil, did not fail the VW specs so nothing was done. The manager in service helped us get a valve job which got approved and went back in the shop. The next major problem occured 2 weeks after we had the 40k service. We took the car on a road trip 9 hrs away from home. On the way home at 7:30 am on a Sunday morning the transmission died on the highway over pass far far from home putting us in a dangerous situation. We got the car towed to the nearest dealership left it there and rented a car to come home. We no longer wanted the car and were determined for VW to buy it back. They shipped the car back to us. VW corp would not do a thing for us and the dealership offered a very low buy back figure. It did not qualify as a lemon, but I would not recommend this particular VW to anyone. It may be fun but is not reliable and spends too much time in the shop. We have gotten rid of the car.
i don't really know why the passat is so underestimate from many people, it's a great car with a great engine and a great look. I was the first to be sceptic about it but when i test drove it, i changed my mind and more time goes by more i love it! I get great mpg and plenty of space for the passengers and in the booth.I loved the steering wheel gearbox, its plenty of fun. If you are looking for a handling tight, sporty, loaded, good looking sedan, give it a shot, i bet you'll love it!
Burn your money
I have owned my passat since new. I love the performance and the look. I Believe that the quality is such that you need to trade as soon as your warranty is complete. The repairs are outrageous. I bought a VW not a BMW and the repairs start @ $1000 plus. That is not value, what you save on gas you will put back into your car 100 times over.
