Purchased new 2009 VW Routan. Unfortunately, nothing but problems! Three pairs of brakes/rotors in 18k miles. AC keeps leaking Freon and won't keep car cold over 90 degrees. Had transmission leak on floor in garage. Fixed leaky seal, but transmission still clunks into gears when shifting. Cruise control varies by 7-8 MPH. Gas mileage is HORRIBLE in town. 14 at best. Hwy is okay at 22 or 23. Ride is nice and quiet, but really lacks power. If you want a lemon that looks nicer than other minivans, buy this. If not, spend the extra money on a Honda or Toyota.
If you are planning to buy a ROUTAN or just bought one - might as well not use it until VOLKSWAGEN releases parts. Mine was accidentally hit by another car last October 2008 - my ROUTAN is still with them WAITING FOR THE PARTS?!? It is already DECEMBER!!
This is a WARNING. I hope what happened to me will not happen to YOU.
