Reviews for 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan
Costly to fix trim and creature comforts
I bought a 2011 Tiguan SEL three months ago and was just loving it until two things happened. First the Shift knob metal parts (not really metal) started delaminating. I found out that to replace the shift knob from VW it's $500.00. I would buy replacement knob if they would give me a real metal one that would last. The second problem is that the beautiful cloth screen that automatically slides over the panoramic sunroof has come loose from the track, not sure why. brought it to VW and a new one is $240.00 but with the labor it's $1,300.00 plus to replace! I would like to keep this car looking beautiful and new but not with these costs. Such a shame that the engineers don't think about costs to repair these fancy features. I would be very careful about buying one of these fully loaded versions without a manufacturers warrantee. I have Maxcare extended warrantee and neither of these issues are covered...:-( My Tiguan had 41k on it when I purchased it.
After some research we found that the name Tiguan is a combination of Tiger (POWER) and Iguana (Fuel efficiency) so we call ours 'The Tiguana'. We find that it really lives up to the name. For a four cylinder it really jumps when called upon, especially in the sport drive. And we are very satisfied with the gas mileage. It's small enough to park in most compact spots and still has plenty of room for four (and one small) passengers and two med size dog kennels in the back. To top it all off, it is simply adorable! Sporty, but a little bit sophisticated. It is, after all, not just an SUV... It's and SUVW!!!
2010 Wolfsburg Tiguan- nice
The Tiguan is basically a Golf with SUV clothes. As such it has great handling and comfort for its small size. The 2.0 Turbo is a VW engine in all kinds of volksies and for good reason: smooth, powerful, sort of efficient. Sort of efficient because it will get good mileage if you stay off the gas. But it will suck premium fuel like a V8 if you zip around. Still, it's your choice. The panoramic sunroof is the bomb. We had a hard time finding one with light interior. It was worth the search because it suits the car to be black on beige. It feels elegant. The sat-nav and blue tooth are nice gadgets. Unfortunately the back up camera feature does not work - because there is no camera. But someone forgot to mention this to the system. My wife loves this car. And she is not the type to love cars. They are more or less appliances to her. The last car she loved was an 88 Volvo 240 wagon. So... she likes quality reliability solidness-- with a bit of quirky uniqueness. The Tiguan delivers.
