Transmission: Automatic Color:Black Interior Color: Gray Average Vehicle Review: (4.667 reviews) Not saving a whole lot on gas. Getting only about 22.5 per gallon. Expecting around 28-29 per gal as advertised. even if you do your own maintainence, Chou can't reset the computer that reads, maintanence overdue, which is a little bothersome. Not a whole lot of room, passengers must navigate out of the backseat like they are going through some sort of obstacle course having to get passed the narrow opening which the seatbelt is in the way so it's easy to get tangled up. Other wise, great power, easy to maneuver and park. Engine noise is loud and you can feel every little bump. The car sits so low that it makes the ordinary driveway seem like a steep mountain that if not handled correctly, the front end scrapes.

The C30 was designed to compete against it and they did. It is the quietest smoothest driving car I have ever owned. Great fuel mileage fantastic acceleration and just over all fun.

Transmission: Automatic Color:Blue Interior Color: Tan Average Vehicle Review: (3.75 reviews) I bought C30 four and half years ago used with 20K. The handsome external design expresses my style well. It is practical (overall small size, with easy back seat conversion to increased cargo volume), well balance (power and mileage), and simple inside. I used it to transport tools and materials for home improvement, to take my dog to the park, to go skiing (roof ski rack), and to go on hikes from trail heads far into the Washington state Cascade mountain roads. This car does all of this at good mileage, reliable services, and sporty feel. At 85K, so far I had no unscheduled repairs. If you want luxury handling and interior noise level, with plenty of power for passing and roadstering, at small fuel mileage penalty, get it!

Fun car, but not an S60R

To be fair, I am coming from a Volvo S60R, which was a great car with all the bells and whistles. The C30 is a lot of fun to drive. The throttle and steering is very responsive. The ride is however rather noisy. The tires have already been replaced due to obnoxious tire noise (I guess the previous owner did not have the tires rotated regularly). There is also a lot of noise during suspension travel that sounds a lot like strut bearing noise. The stereo is good and I appreciate the ipod interface and its ease of use. The styling on the R-design is aesthetically pleasing. I like the interior but I am unsure how to clean the synthetic material. The trunk is obviously much smaller than my S60, and I miss having AWD. The model I bought does not have a sunroof and I regret that. Overall I do enjoy the car. For the price it is a fun and stylish vehicle.

Volvo C30- lots of value, lots of fun!

For the same or less money, you can buy a faster, better handling car, or a car with more interior space and luxury. The C30 is in many respects a compromise. Interestingly, the C30's inspiration- Volvo's 1800ES of the '70's, received the same critique. Today, the ES is an iconic, sought after, albeit idiosyncratic, classic. However, since buying a 40 year old car wasn't an option for me, I went for a three year old C30. I find 0-60 in 6.6 secs is plenty fast enough for me! I can sling the car thru tight curves with confidence. The ride is perhaps a bit firmer than I would choose, but then again, I'm a pretty old guy, and compared to the '65 MGB of my youth, it's downright cushy! Gas mileage is decent, but not extraordinary; I'm getting 23-24 mpg around my small city, but I'm not asking for the turbocharger too often either. My car has the R-design option which offers leather, a firmer suspension, and some unique ground effects and trim. With only about 4000 sold annually over the past 5 years (in the US), you will stand out from the crowd. The car's fit and finish says quality and substance. While I wouldn't want to squeeze into the back, my wife and I are quite comfortable in the well-made and very adjustable front seats. The automatic climate control, sound system, and bluetooth phone link are all excellent. The pop-up navigation works well, but is already a bit dated. Volvo safety features abound, which was a big reason I chose the C30. My work in intensive care has made me a little paranoid about small cars, but I feel very safe in this one. The C30 is a unique, well-made sporty car for someone that wants something fun and a little different.

Bought a lemon...

Before we had made the first payment on this vehicle, a crack developed in the coolant expansion tank resulting in catastrophic engine overheating and failure. The engine was toast. We were presented with a $16,000 repair bill. We were told that even if we had purchased the Carmax extended warranty, the problem we experienced would not have been covered. Lovely. Forturnately, after a month of deliberations, Carmax bought the car back from us , and in doing so, made us whole. What a relief. Go Carmax. They will undoubtedly sell the car off for parts, and write the rest of it off on their insurance.
