Volvo S-80 3.2 Model

Volvo's are known for safety the one I have a 3.2 engine is no different, It has Front Airbags,Side airbags & even an OVERHEAD airbag. Plus Steel protection in the side doors and well thought out ergonomics all around the vehicle. The headroom in this vehicle surprised me when comparing in to a mid sized Lincoln, the Volvo had More rear Headroom an leg room. Two people over 6 feet tall can sit in the seats directly in front and behind each other on the same side of the car! Volvo also employs 3 point seat belts for everyone, including if you have a 5th passenger in the rear seat; something which Volvo car do which the Lincoln cars I had compared it to could not. Rather then rehash more Safety let me tell you that the car runs firm, at least with the 225/50/17 Continental Porti-Connect tires that came as standard equipment on my vehicle. I will have to get used to this firm ride. Some people like the firm ride, those that drove German or Acura or Honda vehicles prior to driving this S80 will be used to the way this vehicle feels. The windshield being far away when your in the front seat gives the appearance of spaciousness too! Despite having to fill up with Premium gasoline this car version also says I can get by with using a Mid grade gasoline in the winter-time with no harm to the engine! Haven't tried that yet but with gas prices on the rise close to $3 now it may be in my distant future. Getting roughly 25MPG in overall driving, but I drive a lot of highway & country roads too. This vehicle will never replace my love for a 4 wheel drive SUV in 1-2 ft of snow with the current tires on it, but I am anxious to see whether it will hold its own once I get a set of "Michelin Pilot tires" on it. Costco says that is the correct tire for the S-80 with 17 inch wheels. The tires appear to be low profile tires. As of right now I have no complaints, I bout this car with 20,000 miles on it and I am trying to decide now whether to purchase an extended warranty from Volvo which is very expensive... Consumer Reports says all extended warranties are unwarranted. and they rate the 2008-2010 Volvo S-80's as some of the most reliable cars to be purchased used. So perhaps I should just do what they say if I am thinking about an extended warranty... put the money in a CD or Hi Yield account and just wait for a major calamity... if none comes while I own the car I am ahead of the game. However Volvo Maintenance cost has been proven to be HIGH over the long haul of 5-7 years of ownership. Something to consider when this car is 5 years old....and possibly high mileage. Something to think about.

Great car, great value

Purchased this vehicle June of 2012. 2008 Volvo S80 T6. This is a great car! Very comfortable, nice styling, very comfortable ride, and plenty of power thanks to the turbocharged inline 6! I would say that one of the highlights of this car is the comfort. The seats are very comfortable, and it has front and rear heated seats. The car received excellent safety ratings as well. This car is a great compromise between performance, and practicality.

exactly what I wanted

This is my second S80. The first one was a 2001 and when it was all said and done, it had 253,000+ miles on it. You can certainly understand why I wanted another one. The 2001 is stll running well for the new owner. In 2007 Volvo released the new body style for the S80 and I knew immediately what my next car would be. I have received nothing but compliments on this car. Even the guy at Jiffy Lube mentioned how beautiful the upgrade to the old interior is. If you like a simple and clean interior layout, this is your car. The dash isn't cluttered, everything is intuitively positioned and the wood is beautiful. I looked at several of the other cars in this class and their dashes are just too busy and gaudy for my taste. I have heard some people were worried that this car is underpowered with its 3.2 liter 6 cylinder engine and don't think anything can be further from the truth. Of course the 8 cylinder and the Turbo engines are "beefier", but I have no complaints when trying to pass at highway speeds or needing to power myself out of harm's way in the city. I commend Volvo for making changes that improve the ownership experience. Ever change a Volvo headlight on a pre-2007 model? The one clip removal of the new headlight assembly will be a pleasant surprise. The only caveat for this car and all the cars in this class is fuel economy. Realistically, you can barely call it that. These cars love gas and aren't shy about it, but if you're looking in this car class it's a pretty even playing field. The manual says the S80 3.2 can burn regular gas. Many people prefer premium, but I'm very happy with mid-grade. I drive between 2500 and 3000 miles monthly so I wanted a car I like and a car that's safe. I like the idea of having the odds in my favor to walk away from a serious accident if I'm unfortunate enough to have one. There are lots of safe cars, but Volvo is definately at or near the top of that list. This car is comfortable, great looking, and a joy to drive. I'm very happy with my purchase.
