Volvo's are known for safety the one I have a 3.2 engine is no different, It has Front Airbags,Side airbags & even an OVERHEAD airbag. Plus Steel protection in the side doors and well thought out ergonomics all around the vehicle. The headroom in this vehicle surprised me when comparing in to a mid sized Lincoln, the Volvo had More rear Headroom an leg room. Two people over 6 feet tall can sit in the seats directly in front and behind each other on the same side of the car! Volvo also employs 3 point seat belts for everyone, including if you have a 5th passenger in the rear seat; something which Volvo car do which the Lincoln cars I had compared it to could not. Rather then rehash more Safety let me tell you that the car runs firm, at least with the 225/50/17 Continental Porti-Connect tires that came as standard equipment on my vehicle. I will have to get used to this firm ride. Some people like the firm ride, those that drove German or Acura or Honda vehicles prior to driving this S80 will be used to the way this vehicle feels. The windshield being far away when your in the front seat gives the appearance of spaciousness too! Despite having to fill up with Premium gasoline this car version also says I can get by with using a Mid grade gasoline in the winter-time with no harm to the engine! Haven't tried that yet but with gas prices on the rise close to $3 now it may be in my distant future. Getting roughly 25MPG in overall driving, but I drive a lot of highway & country roads too. This vehicle will never replace my love for a 4 wheel drive SUV in 1-2 ft of snow with the current tires on it, but I am anxious to see whether it will hold its own once I get a set of "Michelin Pilot tires" on it. Costco says that is the correct tire for the S-80 with 17 inch wheels. The tires appear to be low profile tires. As of right now I have no complaints, I bout this car with 20,000 miles on it and I am trying to decide now whether to purchase an extended warranty from Volvo which is very expensive... Consumer Reports says all extended warranties are unwarranted. and they rate the 2008-2010 Volvo S-80's as some of the most reliable cars to be purchased used. So perhaps I should just do what they say if I am thinking about an extended warranty... put the money in a CD or Hi Yield account and just wait for a major calamity... if none comes while I own the car I am ahead of the game. However Volvo Maintenance cost has been proven to be HIGH over the long haul of 5-7 years of ownership. Something to consider when this car is 5 years old....and possibly high mileage. Something to think about.
I am so pleased with my new volvo, definately worth having a car payment again! It is a very quite, smooth ride with great features. I looked at the S60 new at a Volvo dealer last summer and it was just a bit too small inside, this is just perfect. The gas mileage has been incredible, I get about 25-27 mpg around town and recently took a road trip and got 37mpg. I would definately reccomend this car.
The car was in great condition at time of purchase. Only 26000 miles on a 2010 model in 2013. A very fair price. Car has had no major issues since purchase. Runs quietly and efficiently.
