2008 Cadillac Escalade Overview

The Escalade was Cadillac's first SUV, introduced in 1999. Since then, there have been four generations of this popular luxury vehicle, the first from 1998 to 2000, followed by generations in 2002 to 2006, 2006 to 2014, and from 2014 to the present. Since its inception, the Cadillac Escalade has featured large, powerful engines, spacious interiors, and amenities not found in other SUVs.

By 2008, Cadillac was well-versed in the luxury SUV market, making this year's Escalade an excellent choice for those looking for big space and big engines.

2008 Cadillac Escalade History

The 2008 Cadillac Escalade traces its heritage to the inaugural edition that was produced in 1999, which was essentially a clone of the GMC Yukon Denali. It didn't take Cadillac long, however, to recognize that the Escalade was able to hold its own space in the burgeoning luxury SUV market. The history of the 2008 Escalade includes the following milestones:

  • In 1999 the Escalade was introduced with stats almost identical to the GMC Denali.
  • In 2001 Cadillac added the EXT, a luxury pickup truck model, to the Escalade line.
  • Cadillac produced a limited amount of ESV models to the line-up in 2002.
  • Escalades reached their peak of sales in 2006 with total sales reaching 62,206 units.
  • The 2006 Escalade was the official vehicle of Super Bowl 2006.
  • In 2008 a sluggish economy reduced sales to 39,710, including 4,709 EXTs and 11,054 ESVs.
  • A hybrid version of the Escalade was introduced in 2008 at the South Florida International Auto Show in Miami, FL.

The 2008 Escalade was bred from a decades-long desire for bigger and better. It is a status symbol as much as a form of transportation, and used 2008 Escalades offer exceptional value.

How It Drives

The Escalade is powered by a 6.2-liter engine that provides a bit of a throaty sound the perfect soundtrack for the ride. The sound, however, is minimized by exceptional insulation from unwanted exterior noise. Seats are furniture-quality and provide an exceptionally comfortable traveling experience. The ride of the 2008 Escalade is smooth and stable. No, it's not a sports car but driving a truck either. This is a substantial vehicle with a suspension that ignores the bumps in the road. If you're used to driving a smaller vehicle, the sheer size of the 2008 can be a bit intimidating. You will, however, absolutely love the ride.

Used 2008 Cadillac Escalade Value

As America's tastes in super-large SUVs have changed, the 2008 Escalade has become an increasingly outstanding value for those who desire large and easily configurable interior space, a highly respected brand name, and a powerful engine. Let's be upfront. If you are in search of a vehicle with terrific gas mileage, there may be better options. But if you have always wanted a substantial vehicle that is well-crafted and offers exceptional amenities, consider a pre-owned 2008 Escalade. Original manufacturer list prices for the 2008 Cadillac Escalade ranged from about $55,000 to almost $80,000. Today, you can find 2008 models for significantly less than half of that. It still is a solid vehicle. It still is an impressive SUV. But now it can be had at some extraordinary prices.

Design & Performance

The 2008 Cadillac Escalade, like its predecessors, was designed for those of means. It was created to take advantage of the Cadillac brand. It is for those who are willing to trade gas mileage for power and roominess. In reality, though, it performs surprisingly well. It is reasonably responsive for a vehicle of 5,500 lbs that can tow another 8,000 lbs. This is a vehicle that has made large size attractive. It may trade efficiency, but it hasn't sacrificed performance.

Powertrain & Engine

From day one, the Escalade was built with powerful engines. In fact, the smallest engine ever available in an Escalade was a 5.3-liter power plant. In 2008, its strength rose to a new level.

  • A 6.2L V8 engine
  • 403 horsepower
  • ABS and driveline traction control
  • Six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive
  • Rear-wheel drive

Body Style & Interior Comfort

If you want an SUV that exudes strength and power, this is an excellent option. Interior comfort is superior with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Head and leg room are one of this vehicle's greatest qualities, along with very luxurious seating for eight. If this was an SUV that was out of your reach when new in 2008, now may be a good time to revisit it as an option.
