Power
Plenty of power
Ride and Handling
Handles like a go-kart but it does have a stiffer ride.
Fuel Economy
I get about 27mpg on average with mixed driving. I have gotten 33mpg on a long interstate trip.
Seat Comfort
Hard and oddly place support.
Cost to Maintain
No problems as of yet, but having owned a VW before, repairs can be expensive.
Power
For a little vehicle, it has lot of power and speed. You'll find yourself rolling the windows down to hear the turbo spool, which isn't hard to achieve.
Fuel Economy
Compaired to other sport wagons, gas mileage is actually quite satisfying. I've reached 32 mpg on freeways, 25 in town.
Ride and Handling
The vehicle is smooth and slick, making driving the vehicle an addiction. It also feels very strong and sturdy, which was something I wasn't expecting.
Ride and Handling
Very smooth
Power
Quite impressive
Seat Comfort
Great lumbar support for back problems
Ride and Handling
It drives like a sports car
Technology and Entertainment
GPS and Sirius
Seat Comfort
The MOST comfortable driver's seat
Cabin Noise
Compared to the big SUVs I usually drive, I can hear more road noise but I don't mind
Braking
Braking
Great biting, dependable brakes.
Ride and Handling
Fun, but more importantly precise and sure.
Visibility
Great all around vision for backing up, lane changes, and parking.
Interior Space
Adequate room for 4 passengers, comfortably
Cargo Space
Trunk space is good enough to do a short camping trip from, especially if you throw a roof or hitch rack on for your bike, etc...
Seat Comfort
Seats are amazing... the GTI fits like a glove.
Ride and Handling
The GTI nails the balance between comfortable ride (even drawing compliments from my mother for its highway ride) and competent handling. The car just feels solid and like it could handle anything you throw at it.
Power
The engine is very responsive for a turbo, and it's well-matched to the transmission. The flat torque curve from 1800rpm to 5000rpm means there's always strong, smooth acceleration on tap.
Fuel Economy
I've averaged about 29mpg over the almost 18,000 miles I've owned my GTI. I occasionally see 35+mpg for a tank if it was mostly highway driving, and 38mpg isn't uncommon for a 65mph cruise. The only downside is that fuel economy drops quickly with a heavier foot due to the turbo.
Cost to Maintain
The GTI uses premium fuel, which offsets the good fuel economy. OE parts are expensive for German vehicles, especially repairs to a turbocharged engine and dual clutch transmission. Also, I replaced the tires at 18,000 miles due to heavy wear on the outer half of the tread (partly my fault anyway).
