About The Chrysler 200 S

Vehicle Summary

The Chrysler 200 S is the sports version of the Chrysler 200 midsize sedan, which was also manufactured in convertible form. Produced for two generations from 2011–2014 (first generation) and then 2015–2017 (second generation), the Chrysler 200 S is a successor to the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring and aims to combine an elegant exterior with a comfortable, spacious interior as well as an ultra-smooth ride.

Are you on the lookout for a spacious sedan that can handle both city and highway driving with ease? Maybe you're a professional looking for a stylish convertible that still has plenty of space and comfort inside. The oft-overlooked Chrysler 200 could be a great option for you and the S trim adds an extra, sporty dimension to this midsize cruiser.

FAQ

Q: Did Chrysler discontinue the 200 S?

A: The Chrysler 200 S model was discontinued along with the entire 200 model range in 2017 due to the Fiat Chrysler Association (FCA) wanting to shift focus more towards trucks and SUVs in North America. Although, given how the 200 was a high-volume seller overall for the FCA during its second generation of production (2015–2017), don't assume that the discontinuation means the 200 was somehow not good enough — far from it.

Q: Is the Chrysler 200 S a luxury car?

A: Not quite, but close. The Chrysler 200 S is pitched as the midsize sister to the larger Chrysler 300, the full-blown luxury car in Chrysler's lineup. Nevertheless, the combination of excellent comfort and a smooth ride in a slightly smaller package compared to the full-size 300 makes the 200 S very appealing.

Q: What kind of mileage does the Chrysler 200 S get?

A: For the second generation (2015–2017), two engines were available on the S package and both come equipped with nine-speed automatic transmissions. The 2017 Chrysler 200 S with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine gets an EPA-estimated 27 mpg combined, while the 2017 Chrysler 200 S with a 3.6L V6 engine gets an EPA-estimated 23mpg combined (and 17 mpg combined when using E85 fuel).1

Q: How comfortable is the Chrysler 200 S?

A: Very! The aim of the 200 S is to provide luxury-car comfort in a smaller package than its stablemate the 300, and it does so very well; the 2017 200 S model trim package includes features like leather upholstery and heated front seats as standard.

Chrysler 200 S Trim Configurations

Note that the Chrysler 200 S is a specific trim level in the Chrysler 200 model range, so let's take a look at what each model year of the 200 S offers in terms of features.

2011 Chrysler 200 S Trim Package

  • The 2011 Chrysler 200 S trim package includes all features from the Limited trim package as standard: leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote ignition, Bluetooth®, a touchscreen, and a voice control-equipped stereo system.
  • Additionally, the S package offers, as standard, the 3.6L V6 engine, 18-inch alloy wheels unique to this trim level, sports seats in the front, and additional Boston Acoustics® speakers for the sound system. A sunroof and Garmin™ navigation system are also optional extras.

2012 Chrysler 200 S Trim Package

  • Only a few changes for 2012 — the Limited trim gets fog lights as a feature, so the S model gets these as standard; plus, dark exterior trim and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 200 S Convertible is also available with an optional retractable hardtop.

2013 Chrysler 200 S Trim Package

  • The 200 S trim remains unchanged from 2012.

2014 Chrysler 200 S Trim Package

  • Largely the same as 2013, but the S package also includes unique headlight surrounds, a black grille, and special exterior badging.

2015 Chrysler 200 S Trim Package

  • The first model year of the second generation, the 2015 Chrysler 200 S trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, fog lights, acoustic door glass and windshields to reduce cabin noise, leather seats, and an enhanced interior trim. Additionally, like the first generation (2011–2014), the S trim includes the Limited trim features as standard.
  • The 2016 S package keeps the same features as 2015 while adding heated mirrors, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, satellite radio, and an eight-way power driver seat with lumbar support.

2017 Chrysler 200 S Trim Package

  • In the final year of the Chrysler 200, the S trim retains all the standard features from 2016 but adds a suite of optional extras, such as a Uconnect® 8.4 infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, a blind-spot warning system, and the 200S Comfort Group, Premium Lighting Group, and Navigation and Sound Group packages.

Chrysler 200 S Vs Other Midsize Cars

Let's see how the 2017 Chrysler 200 S compares to fellow members of the stable: the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport, the 2017 Honda Accord Sport, and the 2017 Toyota Camry SE.

Starting with fuel economy, all four models come with similar engine options. Comparing the four-cylinder engines from these 2017 cars first, the Chrysler 200 S manages an EPA-estimated 27mpg combined, versus an estimated 23mpg combined for the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport (2.0L I4 engine). 1 The 2017 Honda Sport gets an estimated 26 mpg combined (2.4L I4 engine with manual transmission) and the 2017 Toyota Camry SE gets an estimated 27 mpg combined (2.5L I4 engine).1

Looking at specs and features, only the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport offers an all-wheel-drive option like the 200 S does, with the 2017 Honda Accord Sport and 2017 Toyota Camry SE being front-wheel drive only. Additionally, the 200 S is the only one of the four with an engine that can run on E85 fuel — the 3.6L V6.

Comparing the 2017 sedan models, the 200 S offers up 101 cubic ft of passenger volume versus 103 cubic ft for the Ford, Honda, and Toyota. It also ties with the Ford and Honda for luggage volume at 16 cubic ft, with the Toyota only just behind at 15 cubic ft.

1 Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates when vehicles sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov for details.
