Transmission: Automatic Color:Black Interior Color: Black Average Vehicle Review: (0 reviews) This is the second Land Rover Discovery (or "Disco") that I've owned. The first one was a '99 model, the 2004 model is a great improvement. This vehicle can do some amazing things offroad and yet handle the roads very nicely, safely and comfortably. The 2004 model has center lock differential and traction control which allows you to handle some really tough offroad situations. From a safety standpoint, the 2004 Discovery is the last Land Rover model sold in the US that has a true frame. The third row is a great option that allows you to transport 7 people comfortably. With the middle seats and the third row folded, you have a huge cargo area and, because of the height, you can even fit a full size assembled mountain bike. It already comes with a hitch receiver, you just need to add the wiring and the hitch. I highly recommend the rear air-conditioner and dual sun-roofs options. It seems that Land Rover has addressed some of the mechanical issues of prior years' models, I've had no issues other than the scheduled maintenance. If you want a vehicle that can take you both to a cocktail party and also to the middle of the jungle, then the Discovery is your car.

Take the good with the bad

For what I need it for, the Discovery is a great vehicle. It goes anywhere, and I do mean anywhere, in a style that is unique in a world of bland vehicles. Even though I bought it to tow my boat, and I have trusted it to get it and me to Florida and back, I would not recommend this SUV to anybody without mechanical knowledge. Unlike a modern SUV, you need to know how to repair, tinker, and even jerry rig things to keep a Discovery on the road. To me, that is part of it's charm, but to somebody who wants an off-road capable appliance...
