Customer Review Summary for Audi S4

Great car but expensive

2013 Audi S4 B - Dublin, OH 03/18/2015

Great horsepower and torque (can accelerate even when already going fast). Fun to drive. Back seat is small.

Total wolf in sheep's clothing

2004 Audi S4 Carl - Austin, Tx 03/17/2009

First off, Audi's S4 is an absolute blast to drive. No one realizes just how fast this car is just by looking at it. The 4.2L V8 is an amazing motor. The driving experience doesn't stop at the motor either; the seats are deeply bolstered and I love the extendable thigh support in the seat bottoms. The steering is speed sensitive and tightens as needed for a extremely communicative feel of the road. The all-wheel drive keeps the wheels connected even in rain (or snow I've been told) for a very stable handler. The Audi fit and finish is as expected for a high-end German car: exceptional. The way they use leather and soft plastics is so far ahead of even the Japanese luxury competitors, it's no comparison when it comes to general ergonomics and comfort. Although I still maintain that German's don't quite understand what a fully functional cup holder is (the S4 comes with 3 that can be hidden away in various places like the dash and center console). The other downsides to this beast would have to be the rear seat legroom and gas mileage. The rear seats could use a bit more space if you cart adults around, especially tall ones, but Audi's A4 and S4 are well know for that already. The gas mileage could be better as I've been averaging about 18mpg in mixed city and highway driving but I think that's a fair trade off for just how fun this car is to drive. Overall, I love the thing. It looks great, it drives wonderfully, has great back support, and best of all, I don't look like a racer to the police or other tuner types on the road. Hands down, this is one of the best sleeper performance vehicles around.

Audi S4 - Almost Perfect

2001 Audi S4 scythe1969 - Orange County, CA 06/04/2008

After spending almost 6 months test driving cars my decision came down to the e46 M3 and the Audi S4. Having owned the previous two generations of M3 and being quite pleased with them I was more than ready to get my third. From the beginning, the S4 made an impression and the only things that really edged the S4 over the M3 for me were the 4 doors and the quattro system. With occasional trips to the snow and passengers becoming more commonplace the Audi became the better choice. The Pros of the S4 Unbelievable fit and finish - This is a well built car and the quality is obvious. Great performance - The M3 will win in a straight away but not by much. quattro System - All wheel drive system definitely a plus. TechnoMania - This car has more technology and creature comforts than you can shake stick at. This is the first time I've ever had to read and re-read an owner's manual for a car. It seems Audi has thought of everything. The Cons of the S4 This may be the only Achilles Heal of this car (and to some degree, the M3)... The V8 motor in the Audi is so thirsty for gas that in our current gas price climate it may be cost prohibitive for many. I have been carefully recording mpg performance and in comparison to other cars it could be labeled "dismal". I have gone from filling up every other week with my previous M3 to every week with the Audi. While this is something that I can deal with financially and am willing to do for the trade-offs, it's still an issue for the average consumer. MPG ratings for my S4 currently sit at 17 mpg for city driving and 21 mpg for highway trips. Overall I wish I would have looked at Audis before because from this example they seem to be great cars. I would highly recommend this car and even more so the RS4 - that is too much fun. Though they're expensive at first, the used car market makes Audis and BMWs worth a second look.
