About the 2012 Honda Civic

Vehicle Summary

Do you need a car that is sporty, practical, and fun to drive? The 2012 Honda Civic just might have the right combination of smart compact design and spirited performance you desire. The two-door Coupe features a sleek silhouette and ambient illumination that creates an energetic atmosphere inside the cabin. The Sedan provides four-doors and comfortable seating for up to five with a folding backseat that expands your luggage capacity. The baseline 1.8L four-cylinder engine is paired with a five-speed manual or automatic transmission and ably navigates morning traffic using 140 hp. If you yearn for more of the feel and look of a sports car, check out the Civic Si Sedan or Civic Si Coupe that adds body panels, a spoiler, and 17-inch alloy wheels, along with the 201 hp engine and sport suspension.

A: Some trim levels include the tech feature, such as the 2012 Civic Sedan or Coupe EX or EX-L, the Sedan Hybrid, and both body styles on the Si.

Q: Is the transmission on a 2012 Honda Civic a CVT?

A: Only the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid features a continuously-variable transmission. Otherwise, you will find a five-speed manual or automatic transmission on your ride.

Q: Is there a 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid?

A: Yes, it is found as a sedan and is fueled by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine with an integrated electric motor assist and CVT that earns an EPA-estimated 44 mpg highway.1

Q: Is the 2012 Honda Civic Si all-wheel drive?

Generation Overview

The 2012 Honda Civic represents the introduction of the ninth generation of this compact commuter car. New aerodynamic cues were integrated into the body style, while the line expanded fuel and efficiency options with the introduction of the Honda Civic HF and the Civic Natural Gas. Both versions are found with the sedan body. The HF amped up its fuel economy using an Eco-Assist system on the 1.8L gas engine that increased its rating to an EPA-estimated 39 mpg highway using an automatic transmission.1 You will also find the Civic as a gas-powered Coupe, Sedan, and as a Hybrid.

The Coupe and Sedan delivered four trim levels each: the DX, LX, EX, and EX-L. Knock out your commute in the DX with 140 hp, 15-inch steel wheels, daytime running lights, and power windows. Find added comfort in the LX with air conditioning, cruise control, a remote key fob, and a USB audio-in jack. The EX delivers Bluetooth connectivity and hands-free calling using steering wheel-mounted controls. Alloy wheels, a power moonroof, and a split rear seat round out its attractive features. Settle into a touch of luxury in the EX-L with heated leather-trimmed seats and heated side mirrors. The Civic HF added a rear deck lid spoiler, a center console with storage, and traction control. Experience constant comfort in the Hybrid using its automatic climate control and an Eco Guide to help optimize your fuel usage. The Honda Civic Si as either a Sedan or Coupe received a sporty body kit, rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels, a limited-slip differential, and the 201-hp 2.4L engine with a six-speed manual transmission.

The available navigation system is satellite-linked, so it requires a subscription. It is found as an optional package on the EX, EX-L, Si, Hybrid and Natural Gas models. If you are looking at the Civic Natural Gas, check to make sure that you have a CNG station on your commuting route.

Fun realiability

This is a great first car for people just out of high school or college. It's affordable, sporty (I love the 6 speed transmission) and overall just a fun car to drive. It's not fast by any means but the 2.4L I-Vtec engine gets you 0 to 60 in just over 6 seconds. It's a 4-door so I'm able to take my friends out in it and fit comfortably. The seats fold down in the back so I can get my guitar gear into the back of it. I have a guitar and halfstack and it all fits. I can get my snowboarding gear in the car too. It has an aggressive look to it plus the sunburst orange pearl paint looks sexy in the bright sunlight.

Pros

  • Dashboard: Sporty and lots of options
  • Technology and Entertainment: Bluetooth, Analog Speedometer, great sound system
  • Reliability: It's a Honda!

Cons

  • Power: Its agressive at acceleration but its a 4cyl non turbo. Nothing like a golf GTI or mazdaspeed 3
  • Cabin Noise: At high speeds it's somewhat noisy.
