2011 Mazda Mazda2Andrew M. - Los Angeles, CA12/18/2011
I spent the better part of 2 years trying to figure out what car to replace my aging MINI Cooper with. After sampling a lot of different cars Mazda announced the Mazda2 was coming to the USA. This car has been for sale all around the world since 1996 and has won numerous awards. I researched Mazda's new car to a degree that some would call maniacal and after I took a test drive, I was sold.
I've had my 2 for nearly a year and it hasn't missed a beat. It may not set a speed record when the throttle is pinned, but it more for makes up for it in it's handling prowess. Even though the car is rated at 100 horse power, it feels faster, peppy even. Besides the fun factor, this car is a utilitarian magician. The 5 door hatchback design is super useful. Shortly after I bought the car my wife and I moved and my Mazda was extremely useful. It held more of our stuff than her Ford Focus.
The quality of the 2 is excellent for the segment. It's not a luxury car by any stretch, so don't expect Acura or Lexus levels of refinement inside. The interior plastics seem to be on-par with those of my departed MINI, and seem to be holding up well. There is no fancy stereo, or automatic a/c, it a good basic cabin. The seats are comfortable and supportive. My wife and I took a week-long road trip in my Mazda and never felt fatigued after day long drives.
According to the trip computer, I average 33 mpg. I calculated it out myself and found that this held true. I drive mostly city, with about 1/4 highway. The best I ever got was 40 mpg, while going though Montana.
Coming from a MINI, I was already used to small cars and know that manufacturers go to great lengths to make small cars safe. The visibility is great out of all the windows making lane changes easy. I feel safe driving my Mazda.
If you are looking for a small hatchback that is unique, economical, and fun to drive, look no further than the Mazda2. I would recommend this car to anyone.
The milage is amazing, the space is unbeatable and it is a breeze to park.

I purchased a Mazda Mazda2 a month ago and it is an incredibly fun car to drive. It handles well in all types of traffic, has great get up and go. I got a great price on the car and would easily recommend this car to anyone looking for a nice, comfortable, well built car.
